Quick Quotes
Q. Best part of your day?
CAMERON YOUNG: What's that?
Q. What was the best part of your day?
CAMERON YOUNG: Best part? I don't know. The up and down on 17 honestly felt pretty good. I think I've made about four up and downs this week total. So that was really nice to make a mistake there and not get hurt by it, finishing up. Because yesterday I had, I bogeyed 17 and 18 without really making a bad swing. I had something weird happen on 18. 17 was basically impossible. So nice to kind of get away with one, that felt good.
Q. What is that opening stretch like from 10 through 14 when it felt like everything was pretty tight.
CAMERON YOUNG: Yeah, I played those holes really well this week. I've birdied, I think I birdied 10 twice. I birdied 11 twice. And I birdied 13 all three days. And I birdied 12 twice as well, I think. So I've played that stretch really well. Yeah, by no means should I have, even though it's softened, but it's a stretch of golf that I like, and with a little softer conditions it was more doable coming out after the rain.
Q. How big of a difference was it when you came back out?
CAMERON YOUNG: Substantial.
Q. Did they have grass on the green or could it grow that quick?
CAMERON YOUNG: Yeah, I mean, it kind of makes it stand up a little bit, I think the moisture, instead of getting so packed down. So, yeah, putts holding their line better, the wind doesn't move 'em as much, they were just a touch slower and softer. So it kind of went from, you know, what we know Bay Hill for on the weekend to just, you know, a notch below that.
Q. What's your earliest memory of this place and this tournament?
CAMERON YOUNG: When I was about nine or ten my family used to live over in Orange Tree, about two miles from here. We drove, we rode our bikes over to watch Tiger play in the pro-am. We rode over here in the dark because he was playing early. I remember being right behind him on the 3rd tee, like close enough that I probably could have reached out and like blocked his club going back. But, yeah, to me it's just, I spent so much time just across the street. Here, it's this kind of mystical place, in a sense. Yeah, I've always loved it and always happy to come here and get to play.
Q. How close do you think you need to be for a reasonable chance tomorrow? We'll see how this finishes.
CAMERON YOUNG: Anything can happen. I don't know what Daniel's going to do, I don't know where I'm going to finish the day, so it's really hard to give you a good answer. But any time you get a golf course this difficult, and this many good players within a couple shots of each other. After Daniel, there's a ton of guys I think between 7- and 9-. There's so many good players, any one of them could take a really difficult golf course and make it look easy. So I wouldn't expect a ton of low scores tomorrow, but I would expect there to be a couple out of that pack.
Q. As a Wake guy, how much more special would it be to win here?
CAMERON YOUNG: Yeah, there's tons of reasons that this tournament is special. That Wake Forest connection to Arnold being one of them, for sure. I looked up at his statute going to practice every day at school. He had a tremendous influence on golf in general, and at Wake Forest. So, yeah, it definitely is a very, very clear meaning in my head of what this tournament represents and what he represents. Yeah, it would be a huge honor to even have a chance, honestly.
Q. How long were you here when you were here? Was it just a winter thing?
CAMERON YOUNG: Yes. My dad didn't have to be at work at Sleepy Hollow usually until like January or February. And we would come down here and play golf across the street.
Q. A nine-year-old play hooky, home school, what was the deal there?
CAMERON YOUNG: Yeah, basically home school. I went to school here across the street until I was in about fifth grade. And then I started doing my own work from New York and keeping up. I guess they let me do it, I'm not sure exactly how it worked, but I just did what I was told.
