Postgame Press Conference
Venezuela 6, Netherlands 2
Q. Even though the score was 6-2 Venezuela, it seemed to me that the Netherlands fought and you had a very good game. How was your experience today to use it for the upcoming games?
ANDRUW JONES: We had one bad inning (no audio).
Q. Your son today, he had two RBIs. How do you feel about being his coach?
ANDRUW JONES: I'm very proud when you have a son playing. But that's his job. When he has the chance to score a run, he has to take it. We had other chances in other innings, but we were not able to score. That's why we lost 6-2.
Like I said before, we had a bad inning, and they took advantage of that.
Now we know what to do, and tomorrow we're going to have a better game.
Q. How many times you have been coaching your son?
ANDRUW JONES: This is the first time, yes.
Q. What's the feeling like?
ANDRUW JONES: Well, we are representing the family, the Jones last name and the Netherlands. This is something special for my mom and my family in CuraƧao.
Q. You used many pitchers today; what's your plan or your rotation for the next games, because they pitched many pitches?
ANDRUW JONES: We have everything under control. The pitchers that we have planned to pitch today. We have only two pitchers that are going to pitch only in the last games. We have 17 pitchers in our roster. Everything is under control. We are counting the pitches, and they will be available tomorrow if they have to pitch again.
Q. What was it like to watch your son drive in that first run in a big spot to tie the game? What was it like watching him and managing him for the first time?
ANDRUW JONES: It was fun. I was looking forward to winning the game. Obviously we did not do it. Just a big opportunity for him to come out there with a big two-out base hit. It was fun.
This is always a fun tournament. It's going to be one loser, one winner, and you don't want to be on the other side. We lost today. We know what we did wrong. Tomorrow is going to be another day, so we've got to go out there and correct all those mistakes that we did.
Q. The team had so many runners on base. What are you going to improve for the next games?
ANDRUW JONES: We have to take advantage of those mistakes made by the opposite pitchers. We hit well, and Venezuela, as well. But we failed, and they took advantage of those mistakes.
