Quick Quotes
Q. All right, here once again with Auston Kim after the second round of the Blue Bay LPGA. Another solid day out there, highlighted with an eagle. Just talk about your day today, just the grind the past couple weeks have been.
AUSTON KIM: Yeah, got off to a hot start, two birdies, and made a really good eagle on 8, unfortunate bogey on 9, and then a lot of pars on the back.
A little frustrating but managed to finish with a good birdie so overall I was -- it was a good round. It got really windy out there so like I knew that -- I just knew to stay strong and hit good shots and I would be fine.
Like I woke up this morning, wasn't feeling that great unfortunately. That time of month, girl problems, but I'm pretty proud of myself for being able to fight through it and have a good day regardless.
Q. Last two holes, nice up and down on 17 and then a little one-handed finish on 18 that ended up being ten feet or so.
AUSTON KIM: Yeah, yeah.
Q. What was the shot on 18? Did you think you chunked it? Thinned it?
AUSTON KIM: I felt like it was a good shot. Came of the face solid. I was just kind of reacting to how it bounced on the green. I was hoping that it would come back a little bit more but kind of stayed on the downslope.
It was a good shot. I feel like on 16 -- the last three holes my approaches into the greens, like I hit the best possible shot. 16 didn't have a good bounce and 17 -- or 16 didn't roll out enough and 17 took a horrendous bounce and went sideways. 18 just stayed on the slope.
Sometimes that's the way it is. I got a little frustrated in the middle of the round and I just had to take a couple deep breaths and remind myself that I was hitting good shots. I just needed to make some putts and I would be fine.
Q. Obviously 36 hole left to play. Similar position last week heading into the weekend. Talk about learning experiences, not just from last week, but being in contention and heading into this week?
AUSTON KIM: Yeah, I think the third round last week was pretty disappointing result-wise and scoring-wise, but I learned a lot that day and was pretty proud of the way I handled myself even when things weren't working out and I couldn't make my putts or I wasn't scoring that well.
So even though it wasn't the best result, I shot over par, I still learned a lot from that day. Heading into tomorrow and heading into the weekend my game is feeling good. I know what I can control and chasing is good.
It'll be fun out here I think. Even learning from last year's experience is good.
So, again, I'm just trying to compete with every shot.
Q. Last one: Last week you were leading; this week you mentioned chasing. Do you prefer either one?
AUSTON KIM: I prefer being in contention either way. Either way it's fine. Just being close to those final groups and getting this experience is good.
