BLUE BAY LPGA

March 5, 2026

Weiwei Zhang

Hainan Island, Republic of China

Jian Lake Blue Bay Golf Course

Quick Quotes

Q. How would you rate your performance today?

WEIWEI ZHANG: The course was very challenging today, and the wind was also very strong. I am very satisfied with my performance.

Q. Could you walk us through the last two holes? You chipped in on both.

WEIWEI ZHANG: The tee boxes were moved up a bit today. I used my driver. From a bit over 180 yards to the pin, it was a really tricky lie for the chip. I hit it a bit heavy, but the landing spot was perfect, and it rolled straight into the hole.

That really got me excited and energized. On the last hole, it was another chip shot from about 11 yards, and I chipped that one in too. The last two holes were particularly exciting and thrilling.

Q. We heard you practiced a lot before the tournament and took this competition very seriously. What were your expectations coming into this event?

WEIWEI ZHANG: This place is only about a three-hour drive from my home. I've played here for many years, and I was hoping to achieve a good result in Hainan. This is also the first tournament of the year. I practiced for two weeks and felt very well prepared.

Q. Have you made progress or any changes specifically with your putting?

WEIWEI ZHANG: I actually practice my chipping a lot more than most people. I feel I have a good connection with the greens. Today, I also managed the wind speed very well, which helped me hole a lot of putts.

My technique hasn't changed much, but because I controlled the distance well and felt familiar with the greens, it made a big difference.

Q. Your outfit color combination looked great today. What made you choose this set?

WEIWEI ZHANG: Actually, I check my lucky color for the day every day. Today's color was pink, so I wore pink clothes, and it really brought me luck! It gives me a sense of calm and confidence.

Q. What will you need to do in the coming rounds to maintain this position?

WEIWEI ZHANG: First of all, this course is really difficult, and the wind is going to be strong. To maintain a good result, I need to stay patient. It's easy to miss the greens when facing these conditions. When facing difficulties, you have to remain patient and focus on playing every shot well.

Q. You've been in good form since last year. What are your expectations for yourself this year?

WEIWEI ZHANG: This year is very crucial for me. I want to improve my world ranking this year. My goal is to represent the Chinese team at the Olympics. I have high expectations for myself and have been putting in a lot of training to achieve this goal.
