Quick Quotes
Q. Alongside Gemma Dryburgh, around in 66. Nice way to open the week. I'm going to ask you about the start today. You got off to a really fast start. 5-under after four holes. What are you telling yourself coming into this event in, because you know the scoring is going to be low?
GEMMA DRYBURGH: Yeah, you do. Got off to a hot start, which is obviously nice. Nice to start off the year with an eagle. Pitched in from 79 yards, so pretty nice way to start the week.
Yeah, like you said, it's going to be low scoring so it's nice to get off to a hot start.
Q. You've been a parent for, what, seven weeks?
GEMMA DRYBURGH: Seven weeks.
Q. How has that changed your perspective out here, there first time away from the little one?
GEMMA DRYBURGH: Yeah, a lot. It was hard to leave. I'm going to be away for three weeks this stretch, so it was tough to leave them, but, yeah, it will be nice to see them when I get back.
Q. Has it changed the way you prepared and practiced?
GEMMA DRYBURGH: Yeah, a little bit less practice but still been getting enough in there. Obviously feeling good this week, so, yeah, kind of makes you more focused when you have the time.
Q. Joining me here today after the first round of the Honda LPGA Thailand is Gemma Dryburgh. Gemma, great start today. Talk about what went well.
GEMMA DRYBURGH: Lots of things actually. Hit the ball well off the tee. Obviously hit the ball well into the green, had an eagle my first hole, which was pretty fun.
Yeah, I was seeing the lines on the putts as well.
Q. Yeah, you had only 26 putts. Was putting something you worked on in the offseason or what's clicking?
GEMMA DRYBURGH: Yeah, changed putters end of last year, so just kind of getting more used to it. Yeah, been working a lot on it. Saw my putting coach, Nick, over the winter and kind of worked a lot on it. Yeah, see the results today.
Q. Congratulations. Like Tom said, you just became a parent. How is it adjusting your life and what are you looking forward to in parenthood?
GEMMA DRYBURGH: Yeah, it's honestly been a big adjustment, but all for the better. It's been seven weeks now, so it was tough to leave them. I'm away for three weeks now, so going to miss him a lot. Seeing him on FaceTime and stuff, so, yeah, miss him a lot.
Yeah, it's been different offseason obviously kind of jugging the parent life and kind of new life style, but it's been great.
Q. How was the baby's first Mardy Gras?
GEMMA DRYBURGH: It was great. We took him once. Yeah, he actually slept through it all. I don't know how. It's obviously very loud. Yeah, he enjoyed it. Next year I think I he'll be able to enjoy it even more.
Q. Definitely. Obviously with this being one of the first events of the season, how has it been to see all the other players and have them congratulate you and just be back at it?
GEMMA DRYBURGH: Yeah, it's been great. They've all wanted to see photos of him and excited to meet him soon, so, yeah, it's been nice to see everyone again.
