Doha, Qatar
Press Conference
J. SINNER/T. Machac
6-1, 6-4
THE MODERATOR: Whenever you're ready. Questions in English first.
Q. It was a pretty strong performance for a start of a tournament. You must be pretty satisfied with the level you found this evening.
JANNIK SINNER: Yes. I mean, it was a really good start. It was really very windy, very breezy, so it was very difficult. I'm very happy how I served, and also how I returned. Yeah, so let's see what's coming now.
Q. Was it easy to get back into tournament mode after the little break after Australia? Was there anything you did special to make sure you were mentally ready for the tournament?
JANNIK SINNER: No, I mean, I was looking forward to it. We practice very hard, and so now it's also time to enjoy the match. The hard work is basically done, and now we try to focus on every match, trying to have a good mentality, and trying to play the best possible tennis.
In the same time, I was looking forward to it, you know. It was not a very long break, so it's okay. Yeah, let's see.
Q. Not easy conditions to play in today, it was very windy. What are you pleased the most about your game today?
JANNIK SINNER: It was very windy, so I tried to understand what shots work on both sides. Trying to serve also in different ways from both sides. For me it was important to try to keep the intensity very high. I think this today worked very well.
Also, I feel like in every match it's important how you also start, you know, how you feel in the beginning. Today I started very well, and that give me the confidence to continue. So it was a very positive day. Obviously now every day is going to be more and more challenging, but I'm very happy. Tomorrow I have one day off, which I will use to practice, and also to recover, and then we see. Hopefully I'm ready for the next one.
