WOMEN'S AMATEUR ASIA-PACIFIC CHAMPIONSHIP

February 14, 2026

Rianne Malixi

Heretaunga, Wellington, New Zealand

Quick Quotes

Q. Rianne, a great comeback and a fightback for you today on the back nine. Can you summarize the round for us?

RIANNE MALIXI: Well, it was not a good day in the office today, so I had really bad breaks in the first nine. Like my first double, the second hole, I slipped when I teed off, so, yeah, went straight left so had to tee off again.

So doubled that one.

And then 5, I bogeyed that because I hit my drive like on the right side. Played out. Hit a really good wedge shot 40 yards in. Landed like a yard before and just hit the pin and then bounced back off the green.

And that was like -- yeah, that was like my only dropped shots, and none of my putts were coming, like dropping, but I hit a lot of really good iron shots.

So it was really frustrating today, and I really tried my best to like be really patient out there, which? I did.

And I didn't really birdie until like my 14th hole, which is like a drivable par-4 today, so it was a two putt and then had another birdie at 16 -- no, 17, that's like three feet away.

So, yeah.

Q. When it's a really tough start like that, how proud of yourself are you that you've really like hung in there and really fought back and you kept your head?

RIANNE MALIXI: Well, in the moment it's not enjoyable for sure. Now after the round when I look at it I'm really glad that I really stuck out there and was really patient.

It's really hard to come off from a really bad start. I'm just glad I was really patient today.

Q. You've not done too much damage on the leaderboard though. You're still working. There is still a chance for you tomorrow. Is that what you're focusing on?

RIANNE MALIXI: Well, I just want to play some good golf tomorrow. I deserve some putts in at least. Like I made zero putts today, so I wish tomorrow, so, yeah.

Q. Talk to us a little bit about there was loads of fans out there at Royal Wellington today cheering all the girls on. Was it exciting to see them out there?

RIANNE MALIXI: I had a like hunch that there was a crowd for the last group this morning. I didn't realize how big of a crowd it was until my last seven holes. One of the girls in my group made a really long putt and I just heard a really loud roar and I was like, oh, wow, that's the biggest crowd I've heard at least in my time at Asia Pacific.
