Press Conference
THE MODERATOR: Let's welcome to the stage Legion XIII captain Jon Rahm. Excellent round today, bogey-free 9-under 63. Please just take us through the round.
JON RAHM: The whole round? I could do it hole by hole and just leave it at that and not do follow-up questions.
Very good round of golf. Overall with less wind today and the fairways being a little bit firmer, the course was easier. I think the scores reflected it. I saw a lot of low rounds out there. But still, it can get tricky.
I did a really good job off the tee in general, always put it in the good spot. A lot of good iron shots.
But I putted extremely well today. Made a lot of feet of putts. I can't remember the last time I made this many. But it was a lot, and the ones that didn't go in looked like they were going to go in. It was a fantastic day on the greens. So that's the biggest takeaway from today.
Q. The crowds really showed out today. How did it feel to play in front of the Adelaide crowds here?
JON RAHM: It's always fun to play in front of this crowd. Tomorrow I'm assuming will be the big day, being a Saturday. A little bit of a later tee time, right; it's easier for the crowd to be here on time. It's also more time to drink, so it'll be a little bit louder. A little hotter, too, so I think you're going to get there even quicker.
It's going to be a really fun atmosphere. I'm really looking forward to it.
This event is fantastic. It's one that we all look forward to. It's a little bit sad that it's this early in the season and we're going to have to wait a whole year to come back to Adelaide. But it's such a good venue, such a good crowd that make it one of the more fun events we play all year.
Probably being able to share that stage with Fisher on Sunday as the champion is something I think all of us want to do. It's just a unique experience.
Q. Mariah Carey, Ozzie Osbourne, Silk and Crazy Frog were the selections today. Can you talk us through how you guys come up with that?
JON RAHM: For anybody that's confused right now, we did it last year in Indy, and we're doing it this week again where instead of ourselves picking our walk-up songs, the team picks for you and you have no idea what's coming. There's some themes that go with it, but it's me and Tyrrell picking, basically. Caleb and Tom do not want to be a part of picking for some reason, but it's a lot of fun for both of us. Hopefully you like it. That's all I can say. I had Mariah Carey "Always Be My Baby." I love that song, so it's not really -- I like it. It's fun.
I think Caleb gets the harder ones just because he's so -- musically, at least, he listens to mostly country, so we're trying to go as far away as possible from things like that. While Baby Shark was going on yesterday, he had Crazy Frog today.
It's just fun because we know it upsets him so much. The other three of us don't really care. I just think it's a little bit of fun to have with something like that. Yeah, I'm looking forward to whatever they may have tomorrow.
Q. We have a little segment about what to eat while you're playing a round, and we saw you bring out the biggest bag of food yesterday that I've ever seen in a Ziploc bag. Can you run us through what's in there?
JON RAHM: There's peanuts, there's almonds, there's cashews. There's about four or five different nuts in there.
Q. Just nuts?
JON RAHM: It's just nuts. They're all salted, as well, so you can keep your water in and stay hydrated. I also have sandwiches and protein bars in there because I've been a pro nearly 10 years. The first five years I had a trail mix bag like that that my wife used to make. Then I went to sandwiches, and now I'm getting to a point where I need diversity. I've had too much of the same thing for too long, so now I can mix it a little bit and it's fun, but I'm still looking for something that I'm going to enjoy on the golf course because a ham-cheese-lettuce-tomato sandwich gets old fast, so after five years I'm over it for sure.
Q. To follow up, a serious question, if you will. Hypothetically if the Australian Open was next week at a Sand Belt golf course and you had a break in the schedule for LIV, do you think that would be something you'd be interested in playing?
JON RAHM: Oh, 100 percent. If next week it was an Australian Open, I believe it's Kingston Heath this year? It would be a no-brainer, I would stay. We're already here, so why not.
