Q. Jeff Koski told me you put in the hardest work he's ever seen in the off-season. Are we seeing the fruits of your labor?
JON RAHM: It's the first time I've had an off-season like that, so I was able to do certain things that I haven't done in the past. But I think so. I think so. I'm playing really well, feeling confident. I think there's been a few wayward shots this week that were not expected because of how well I feel like I'm swinging. It's definitely worked out better than it could have, right? I was certainly a little bit luckier than I think maybe I should be with the shot that I hit on 18, being in a TIO and having basically the easiest shot you can possibly have into that pin. Overall it's been two really good days.
Q. A few wayward shots but very few. You hit some awesome shots and made some putts today. How do you manage to stay patient knowing how bad you want that trophy each and every week?
JON RAHM: We have 72 holes, we're only 36 in. So there's a lot of golf to come. I've done a lot of good. Putted well both days, especially today, so everything went in today for the most part, and if not it was very close. Hopefully I can keep making smart choices and hopefully not give myself reasons to have to get lucky. But when it gets windy on this golf course, it's tricky. It's narrow. It's tough. You're going to have a little bit of -- you're going to need a little bit of luck to win anytime, but so far, I'm feeling good, and hopefully I can keep doing it.
Q. You're not only captain of a very good team out here, but you have a teammate on your bag with you every step of the way in Adam Hayes. How valuable is he to you when you're trying to figure out the trickiness of a course like this?
JON RAHM: You know, we have a really very honest relationship that I don't know if a lot of player-caddies have out there, and after nearly 10 years together, he pretty much knows what I'm thinking at any point, which 95 percent of the time is flagstick and see if we can hit it at the pin.
But he's very good at making the right decisions and backing me off when he needs to. It's instrumental to have somebody like him, and the confidence we have in each other, as well.
