TV Quick Quotes

Q. Ben, congratulations on a clinical bogey-free 9-under 63, one shot off the all-time scoring record of 10-under. What was the key to the round's performance?

BEN CAMPBELL: Just staying patient. I've played a lot of golf in Australia and sort of when it starts firming up like this. Just putting the ball in the right spot. I feel like I'm putting well at the moment, so just giving myself plenty of chances. You know the old cliche, plenty of fairways, plenty of greens and just sort of try and let the putter do the talking. It felt close out there. I want to tidy up the full swing a little bit, couple of shots there. But yeah, no, exciting going into the weekend.

Q. You've played a lot of golf in Australia and New Zealand. What confidence in knowing that you've played a lot of golf around this golf course in these conditions going into the weekend?

BEN CAMPBELL: I think when it firming up like that, a few low drives and things like that can run it out there and make the par-5s achievable for me. I think hopefully it keeps firming up. I'm sort of used to this. I lived on the Sand Belt for a little bit and played plenty of Aussie Amateurs and things like that. Hopefully it keeps firming up, and you've got to place your ball around a little bit, and would be nice for me. Hopefully that keeps happening.

Q. You've got some buddies following you this afternoon. I think you had a pact with them about for every birdie, it's a beer; for every eagle, it's two beers. Have you checked on this state?

BEN CAMPBELL: Yeah, I've got a good group that always comes out to the New Zealand Open, and the boys come over last year for the event here in Adelaide and loved it. I think there's about 15 of them staying in a house, then another big group of guys that I play golf with. Yeah, they set the rules from the New Zealand Open, beer for every birdie and two for an eagle.

Q. Some eagle on 18. So you might need a wheelchair for these boys to go home.

BEN CAMPBELL: Thank you.
