WOMEN'S AMATEUR ASIA-PACIFIC CHAMPIONSHIP

February 13, 2026

Amy Tang

Heretaunga, Wellington, New Zealand

Quick Quotes

Q. Amy Tang, well, yeah, I guess you're meant to be at school this week, but now you made the cut at the Women's Amateur Asia Pacific. How does that feel?

AMY TANG: Feels amazing. Yeah, I wasn't really expecting this. I guess I was really confident and relaxed out there, no expectations. I feel like I did my best and performed pretty well.

Q. Yeah. It's interesting to see that you felt like that. Was it you've been playing well leading into it? What else do you think made you feel so comfortable out there?

AMY TANG: Well, I wouldn't say I've been playing really well, but I just tried to trust my game. It's in New Zealand so I'm kind of used to this climate and the grass. So, yeah.

Q. Talk to us a little bit about the preparation for the tournament, when you found out, and I suppose you had to get on a plane and get down here.

AMY TANG: I didn't really have any preparation time. Just when I was packing I was sort of thinking about what the weather could be like. Yeah, nothing really. Just looking at the course online, yeah.

Q. Well, you're doing exceptionally well. Currently tied for 23rd. Did you ever think you would be going this well at the tournament?

AMY TANG: Not really. I didn't really think -- try to think about the results. Just tried to stick to my game, yeah.

Q. Nice. And how have you found the course? Talk to us about how you've been playing the last two days.

AMY TANG: I've been playing all right. The course is really pure and the fairways are rolling out quite nicely. Obviously today with the rain in the morning was a bit slow, but then it dried up.

The wind was swirling a little bit today in the afternoon, but, yeah, playing a little bit more tough than yesterday. Hopefully it will be good the next two days.

Q. And just a couple more from me. In terms of the scale of this tournament, imagine this is probably the biggest you played in.

AMY TANG: Yeah.

Q. How have you enjoyed all the things that come around a tournament like this?

AMY TANG: It's really cool. When I first walked in -- I played Royal Wellington two years ago, but I've never seen it set up like this.

Yeah, really grateful to be playing in this tournament. I think I'll learn a lot from it.

Q. And cool to mix with so many great players.

AMY TANG: Yeah, yeah.

Q. With the changing weather conditions out there, did it make the course play a bit longer as well? It was pretty wet in the fairways and around the greens.

AMY TANG: I don't think it was playing longer, but, yeah, like you said, maybe it was a little bit damp in some areas.

Yeah, I found one of the par-5s, yeah, was really damp. I took a really big divot, yeah.

Q. Can you talk about that moment on Sunday when you first got that phone call? Who did you share the moment with? What was that reaction like when you found out you would be playing this week?

AMY TANG: Well, I got the phone call from Liz, and actually I was at school so I didn't really know. But then -- oh, no, I wasn't at school. Sorry, my bad.

My dad got the phone call but I was still around. I don't know. He told me and I was just like, wow. I was absolutely shook. I was so excited, and I knew I was going to have so much fun and learn a lot from everyone here.

Q. And how did that conversation with your teachers and principal go to say, can I please have the rest of this week off?

AMY TANG: They were really nice about it. Really supportive, yeah.
