Quick Quotes
Q. Elise Barber, well you at this stage have made the cut at the Women's Amateur Asia Pacific. How does that feel?
ELISE BARBER: I don't know how to explain it. It's such a great feeling, especially when I thought after the first couple holes I had no chance.
I think I had a pretty good comeback coming into especially the front nine because I tee'd of the back. I think I was able to keep it consistent and then somehow find my way to just squeeze in the cut line.
Q. Yeah, obviously on the front nine you lost a few shots. How were you able to rally yourself? What were you thinking?
ELISE BARBER: Definitely saw in the so tree lines a few more people supporting. Definitely that made me feel good and definitely just trying to keep my mind on one shot at a time. Just forget about those shots and look forward to the holes following.
Q. Yeah. The last 12 holes you played 1-under. Must be really happy with that.
ELISE BARBER: Yeah, no, I'm really impressed of myself of keeping composure together, just finishing it out there.
Q. The front nine has been playing harder than the back nine. I guess you were able to play at 1-under.
ELISE BARBER: Yeah, especially from yesterday's round, again, learning shots, same positions, and, yeah, definitely just finding the green and allowing myself those birdie putts.
Q. Nice. And I guess having your dad out there as well, how has that been in this week?
ELISE BARBER: Again, he's been really great support. Always giving my fist pumps no matter what. Yeah, no.
Q. I guess can you talk about your birdie as well on the front nine?
ELISE BARBER: Yes, well, on the first couple holes I definitely was leaving myself really short birdie putts but couldn't get anything rolling in. I was able to stick it within one foot on No. 5, and, yeah, just from there I was able to just finish the last few holes off.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, just getting few up and downs and leaving myself, again, a few more birdie putts and getting it up and down on the last for myself to squeeze in the cut line.
Q. Talk to me a little bit more about that shot on No. 5 there. That is quite an intimidating shot. Tell us how far you had and what you were thinking.
ELISE BARBER: I had 130-ish. Yeah, around that. The wind was like swirling and so it was like back, forth, left, and right. Especially where that pin was it was just near the front and I didn't want to come short and didn't want to go long and leave myself this big putt.
As soon as the wind died I was thinking between an 8-iron and a 7-iron. 8-iron I just can't want to come up short either because I knew I had all that green behind me.
So I did take a little bit off a 7-iron and opposed for the camera that was taking a photo of me.
Yeah, that was a really impressive shot and I think that secured me for the rest of my round.
Q. Yeah, nice. The back end of your round were you thinking about the cut line? Was that on your mind?
ELISE BARBER: Slightly. Not as much. Just thinking one shot at a time. Don't worry about what anyone else is doing. Take my time and just do my best out there.
Then as I was getting to -- I was thinking, oh, if I can try and keep a stable few pars on the trot then I should be like just okay, yeah.
Q. What about the support that you've received since you've been coming into this tournament? How has that been?
ELISE BARBER: Yeah, I think it's definitely so great to be at Royal Wellington, home club. Everyone out there in the tree lines just walking down every hole right from the start or even if it was halfway, it's so great to see everyone come out especially just for me and, yeah, just cheering me on and clapping, all that.
Q. Have you been receiving some messages as well?
ELISE BARBER: Yes. My phone has been blowing up once I got the wifi. Yeah, jus scrolling though that and everyone is saying, congrats. I bet there is probably a few in there, oh, my God she's just made the cut. Yeah, definitely have to go through all my messages and say thank you to everyone.
Q. Be plenty of time for that. You can focus on your golf. What are you most looking forward to about the weekend?
ELISE BARBER: Hopefully the weather is going to stay not too bad. I've definitely seen the weather for the weekend. Again, if I can just stay consistent, one shot at a time, not worrying too much about anyone else now that I know I'm through the cut line, I think that will be the main key.
