Quick Quotes
Q. What's been working well for you?
EUNSEO CHOI: My driver has definitely been working well. Barely missed any fairways. No big trouble, which is really great.
Yeah.
Q. Cool. What are the areas you're looking to work on going into the weekend?
EUNSEO CHOI: Probably sinking some putts, a little bit of short game. I've been struggling a little bit with a little bit of pitch shots.
I think if I get my game, short game and putting, I think I'll be pretty good; reset.
Q. Talk to us about your finish last night and then obviously the start today. Picked up a couple of birdies at the end of the first round. Tell us a little bit about that and the momentum that gave you.
EUNSEO CHOI: I wasn't thinking much. I tried to just enjoy the game. I was like, you know what, might as well start now if I want to start a new day tomorrow. I felt I just got in a pretty good flow with my birdie on the 17th, and 18 just came along, yeah.
Q. Nice. And obviously the leaders are quite out far in front, but then you're tied for 24th. How do you see yourself positioned in the tournament?
EUNSEO CHOI: Obviously I would kind of hope for myself to have been like placing a bit higher in the ranking, but I think tomorrow is moving day. As long as I just keep pushing forward and enjoy the game, I think I'll move up pretty well.
Q. Can you tell us a little bit about the course conditions out there today?
EUNSEO CHOI: So our tee time the tee box was flooded, so I was kind of stepping in water. It was a bit heavy in the morning. Going out in the afternoon there was only a couple showers. Overall no rain, not much wind as well, light rain.
Yeah, course was playing nice.
Q. What about the setup here and the atmosphere? How have you enjoyed it with lots of people coming out? Obviously a bit wet today.
EUNSEO CHOI: It's cool to see like people still coming out and supporting despite the rain, especially in the morning. I've really enjoyed just the whole tournament, especially being in like my home ground.
So, yeah.
Q. And what's a day like with quite a few New Zealanders in the draw; 11 in total?
EUNSEO CHOI: Yeah, that's something else, isn't it? We don't get a lot of New Zealanders players sin such in big tournaments, so it's really good for them to get experience and just get exposure.
I feel like New Zealanders playing these big event, I think our game just grows more and more and like we get more and more New Zealanders overseas and in these big tournaments.
Q. Elise Barber, she's only 13. You played her a practice round. Can you tell us a little bit about her and playing with her.
EUNSEO CHOI: She's a really sweet girl. I think she was just a bit nervous during the practice round. Going into the game I think she was really like just enjoying the course. Like because this is her home courses I'm sure she really enjoyed it here.
So I think the nerves like started -- she's losing the nerves a little bit and I think she's just enjoying the game and the course itself, yeah.
Q. Another playing, Amy Tang. She's very new into the draw. She didn't even know she was going to be playing. Cool to see these youngsters doing that as well?
EUNSEO CHOI: Yeah, Amy Tang is definitely a hard worker. I'm not too sure about her, but I've seen her around a bit when I was playing junior golf in Auckland as well. She's really disciplined and I think she's enjoying the game as well out there.
Q. Lastly, you mentioned that your coach is over from Pepperdine as well.
EUNSEO CHOI: Yeah.
Q. Tell us how playing golf in the States has prepared you for coming back to this tournament.
EUNSEO CHOI: Well, in the States we have to rely on ourselves. We have no caddies. Everything is you set the time, you practice, you discipline yourself with studies.
I think just a busy lifestyle has got me very prepared for any situations in the tournament. If you're running late, I know which part of my game I have to work on to stay prepared.
And I think like just staying by myself and just enjoying the game really got me to like stay focused on my game as well instead of like the people around me.
Q. What are you looking forward to most about the weekend?
EUNSEO CHOI: Better weather but I don't think that's the case. It might rain. Just playing with other athletes and hopefully paying off.
