Heretaunga, Wellington, New Zealand
Quick Quotes
Q. Thank you for the time for these questions after your first round. Talk us through it. Four birdies on the first nine.
JENEATH WONG: Yeah. I was picking up momentum. My approach shots were pretty close. I guess three, four feet; that's how I got the four birdies.
Then towards the back nine I had three bogeys in a row. I think the wind picked up a bit, but I still managed to get all par for that.
Q. Nice. What are some things you can take from this first round you think and take for tomorrow? What have you learnt?
JENEATH WONG: Definitely just probably being calm even if the wind picks up or I make a bogey. Also just sticking to my game plan as usual and also just keep hitting it close.
Q. What's your experience with wind and golf, wind and Wellington?
JENEATH WONG: Quite a bit. I grew up in Melbourne so the wind is pretty strong there. But Wellington the winds really just swirl around so makes it a bit harder to decide which club, if it's into the wind or downwind.
Q. Can you walk us through one of your better holes today from tee to getting it in?
JENEATH WONG: Yeah, I think hole 2 I got my first birdie. It was like probably 12 feet. And then the next hole hit a 9-iron and stuck it to four feet and the next hole another approach shot to like four feet.
Q. And how does it feel to have a NZ crowd cheering you on today?
JENEATH WONG: Oh, it's really good. It feels just like Australia. Got good crowds here.
Q. Nice. What's it feel like playing for your home country here in New Zealand?
JENEATH WONG: It feels really good. Considering making history for my country last year, I think it's also honoring to do that.
Q. How do you feel being the champion from last year? Feeling up to this first round?
JENEATH WONG: I still feel that I can do better in the coming days so I'll try my best.
Q. Plenty of golf to play.
JENEATH WONG: Yeah.
