WOMEN'S AMATEUR ASIA-PACIFIC CHAMPIONSHIP

February 12, 2026

Yujie Liu

Heretaunga, Wellington, New Zealand

Quick Quotes

Q. Nice round here to begin the Women's Amateur Asia Pacific. How you feeling about that?

YUJIE LIU: I'm feeling really happy because I really enjoyed my round. I feel like I'm having a really good day and I'm enjoying the course and enjoying my game.

I just try to be patient and try my best today. It was good.

Q. Great. 69; can you talk to us about the round?

YUJIE LIU: So my first nine I was like par, par, par, and then I was telling myself just be patient, then -- because I didn't give myself too much opportunities, so I was just like trying to stay patient and try to believe in myself.

And then hit it on the fairway, hit it on the green, tried to make the putt. Then just always have faith in myself.

Q. That's nice. What was the best part of your round today?

YUJIE LIU: I think it's my first birdie, the par-5.

Q. What hole was that?

YUJIE LIU: It's a reachable par-5. Hold on. Oh, No. 4.

Q. Nice.

YUJIE LIU: Yeah, because it's downwind and I use driver. I hit right of the left bunker. Then I use my 3-hybrid and hit on the green and two putt.

Feel like that's the hole that give me more opportunities at the back nine, so after that hole I got another two more birdies and then that's where like my peak.

Q. I remember back in Singapore you made your WAAP debut and you were the youngest player in the field. You've been out here for a few years now. Is it nice to see your name now coming up the leaderboard and starting to move into the mix?

YUJIE LIU: Yeah, so WAAP is always like one of my favorite tournaments and I'm really excited to come over here like each year. And then I just feel like I'm coming back home. It's just so familiar and I love this tournament so much. Just super happy and super glad to be back this year.

I always try my best to play good.

Q. It sounded like to me when you were talking about your round that maybe your mental strength is really key for you. You sound like you've got great self-belief and great self-talk. Is that how you feel?

YUJIE LIU: Yeah, like I always try to have a really good mindset and also mental game. I feel like that's probably the most important part of my game.

Then just try to take that to my advantages and just stick to my game and then keep on believing in myself. I'm really grateful to have such a good team supporting us along the way.

Q. Talking about your team. Let's look at your parents. They're incredibly successful athletes in their own right. Do you feel like that mindset, that winning mindset and athlete mindset is something you learned from your mom and dad?

YUJIE LIU: That's for sure. Both of my parents are athletes and they've been through so many like experiences I haven't experienced, and they give me so much good advices. And I get to share my opinions and they'll give me feedback. They always support my choices, which I'm really grateful for that.

Q. Now, obviously your dad is -- well they're both champions at ping pong. Guessing he beats you on the ping pong table. Do you beat him on the golf course?

YUJIE LIU: That's for sure. Like I'm super confident with my golf game. Then so I have actually played with him this year, like the beginning of this year, and then so now I think -- so my mom and him play best ball against me but still can't beat me.
