Quick Quotes
Q. Scottie, just give us a summation the day, what you were thinking.
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: Yeah, I did some good stuff out there. Like the way I played. Felt like I was close to doing some really nice stuff. The golf course is challenging. Your golf shots to be very crisp and sharp in order to make birdies.
It's challenging with how firm the greens get. I did what I could today.
Q. We don't know what the lead is going to be at the end. We know you can go low. Can you be aggressive at this golf course?
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: Can you be aggressive? I mean, yeah. (Laughter.)
Q. Does it allow you to be?
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: Yeah, I mean, if you're in the fairway you can be aggressive in some shots. For the most part if you're in the fairway in this golf course -- getting into the par-5s you can't be too aggressive, but most of the time if you're in the fairway the club you're going to have in is not going to be a super long club. Maybe only on a couple holes with the temperature and how firm the fairways are.
If you get the ball in play you can be aggressive in some spots.
Q. Currently four behind. You've been in this spot before. What's the mentality going into Sunday and how does that feel for you?
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: Yeah, see how far back I am going into tomorrow, but, you know, barring anything crazy on the back nine I shouldn't be out of the tournament. Somebody have to do something crazy on the back nine in order to knock me out of the tournament.
Going to need a special round. I'll be starting on the front nine tomorrow, so if I can get out there and make a few birdies on the harder nine and get some momentum going into the back, you never know what can happen.
Q. The way you're swinging it now, does it just seem like Thursday was an anomaly, an aberration? You have better control now?
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: Yeah, pretty much. Feels a lot different coming of the course the last two days than on Thursday. And even to start the year. So I feel very comfortable where I am at and where my game is at. Starring to see the ball start online. Yeah, feel in control of the golf club.
Overall feel like I am in a really good spot. Yeah.
Q. We've heard over the years Tiger, Rory talk about in the middle of a tournament if they don't have their best stuff and are still able to contend and maybe even go on to win, it's one of the things they're more proud of as a player. Can you relate to that sentiment?
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: Yeah, when you look at the results I've had over the last few years I think probably my greatest skill is being able to stay near the lead. I think one of the things I'm most proud of is the consistent results I've had over the years, so, yeah, definitely agree with that.
