Hideki Matsuyama

TPC Scottsdale

Quick Quotes

Q. It feels like you play here every year well. What about this place maybe suits your game better than other stops on TOUR?

HIDEKI MATSUYAMA: I love playing here. The energy that's out there, so many fans cheering you on. You hit a bad shot, they'll boo you and there is some pressure, but I love it.

Q. So do you enjoy that type of atmosphere on a golf course? And what about it do you enjoy?

HIDEKI MATSUYAMA: I really like and I'm grateful for how many fans come out and watch us play golf. It's a great golf course. You have to play well here, strike the ball well to play well, and the crowd gets me geared up for that.

Q. When those fans do boo you, how do you reset not just moving on to the next hole, but making sure it doesn't effect what you're doing in the moment?

HIDEKI MATSUYAMA: Yeah, you know, if they boo, probably hit a bad shot. I really don't hear it. Except at 16.

You just have to regroup after every shot. One shot at a time.

Q. Is there a certain ritual that you do not just going into 16, but as you're leaving 16 and having processed everything that you had just listened to?

HIDEKI MATSUYAMA: I mean, it's always exciting to finish 15, take a couple deep breaths, and, boy, you feel it when you walk through that tunnel out onto the 16 tee.

Then when I hole-out there at 16 it's kind of a relief, oh, I did it.
