AFRICA AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP

February 6, 2026

Lisa Coetzer

Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa

Quick Quotes

Q. That was an exceptional and nail-biting round out there. How did it feel to win the Africa Amateur women's invitational?

LISA COETZER: It means the world. For me, I've been working really hard to win this event because you get into so many tournaments that could give me so much recognition for what I want to do in the future.

I don't think it's really kicked in yet, but I'm really happy.

Q. How did it feel to make that birdie on the 18th there?

LISA COETZER: It's great. All I needed was a par, and I just said to myself, if you get the birdie it's a bonus, and I got the bonus, so it's great.

Q. We've been speaking a lot about mental preparation. How do you think that played a part today?

LISA COETZER: Today that played a massive part because I was basically behind the lead again from like the 5th hole or something. I needed to come back mentally because Laurenda wasn't making any mistakes; she's a great player. I just needed to play my own game and focus and kind of ignore everything going on around me.

I got to do that, so I'm really happy.

Q. As you mentioned, a lot of things come with winning this, and also you get the opportunity to play in the AIG Women's Open final qualifying. What does that mean to you?

LISA COETZER: It's like insane because just the fact that I can get there -- not the fact that I might not qualify, it's the fact that I'll still be able to play the event, I'll still be able to go there, play the course, have the experience, and if I get in, it would be even better. I'm so happy.

Q. What does it mean to play in events like this, and how has it helped your golf?

LISA COETZER: Oh, events like this have helped me so much. It just has to raise your golf to that next level, and that happened this week, so I'm really happy.

Q. You mentioned in your previous interview about the R&A and what's that done for golf. Can you tell me a little bit about that?

LISA COETZER: So I've played a couple R&A events, and it's lifted my game so much because the competition is really good. It's done very good things for my game, and I'm very grateful to the R&A.
