AFRICA AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP

February 6, 2026

Malan Potgieter

Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa

Quick Quotes

Q. You had a phenomenal start to your round today with an eagle on the 1st. Tell me about that.

MALAN POTGIETER: Yeah, I striped it down the middle and had a gap wedge in and hit it close enough and made the putt.

Q. You're four behind the leader. How did you feel like you were playing today?

MALAN POTGIETER: I was playing pretty well. I made a few silly mistakes like I hit it in the water left on 15, but all in all, I'm pretty happy with how I played. Jack is playing phenomenal, so trying to chase him down is hard when he's not making mistakes. But I'm all in all pretty happy with my game.

Q. What have the conditions been like today on the course?

MALAN POTGIETER: It was pretty nice. Weather-wise we can't complain. It's perfect weather every day.

The course, I'd say, wasn't too hard today. It was definitely scorable out there.

Q. Winning tomorrow gives you exemptions into amateur and professional tournaments, including The Open at Royal Birkdale. What would it mean to you?

MALAN POTGIETER: That would be -- it's any golfer's dream to play The Open. That would be phenomenal. But there's a lot of work left to do before then, so I'm going to try and focus on tomorrow and see what happens.
