TPC Scottsdale

Quick Quotes

Q. Pierceson, 66 today. Just get some comments on your opening round.

PIERCESON COODY: Yeah, it felt pretty scrappy. I made some mistakes early. Made a bunch of bogeys. But a hot putter and can make up for a lot of things. Saved some in the middle of my round to give myself the chance to go low on the back nine. Front nine, my back nine.

Just rolled in a couple 20-footers that are huge on a day you're not hitting it your best. Luckily all came together to a pretty good score.

Q. Just talk about the experience out there. You probably watched this one for a while. That was it like out there?

PIERCESON COODY: It's really cool. It's hard for it to not feel like just a little bit more than some other events, and I was saying earlier in the week, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, just so many people being out here watching practice, playing a practice round and stuff, that's what it feels like in a major.

It's a different feel, but it's really cool. It's really special. Hit a really bad wedge on 16 and missed the green so got booed my first time there. It was still fun.

Q. Talk about how excited you are about how you started the season and just in terms of how this motivates you here going forward.

PIERCESON COODY: It's certainly a different spot than I was in my rookie year. I think I missed the first six cuts my rookie year. Last year obviously wasn't playing on the west coast and didn't play in Florida either, so I knew I was only going to start in the middle of the year essentially.

Yeah, to be one up on the way I've started last couple years feels really nice. I know I've set myself up to, yeah, keep moving the bar and playing well and play a little different schedule than I had the last few years.
