LIV GOLF RIYADH

February 5, 2026

Thomas Detry

Riyadh, Saudi Arabia

Riyadh Golf Club

4Aces GC

Press Conference

THE MODERATOR: Let's welcome Thomas Detry from 4Aces GC. Well played today, 3-under par round of 69. You are 10-under par, currently tied for the lead at the halfway stage at ROSHN Group LIV Golf Riyadh. Can you take us through your round?

THOMAS DETRY: Yes, I can. Got off to a pretty shaky start. It was a bogey-free round yesterday and felt a little not quite comfortable early on. I managed to sort of settle the ship there with two birdies on holes No. 4 and 5, and then just fought hard.

The temperature sort of dropped after nine holes and the wind picked up, as well. I wasn't really expecting that.

Yeah, it was sort of a bit of a fight out there, which was nice. I like it.

Q. As we go into the weekend, 4Aces are currently third, seven behind Smash GC. What's the mindset going into the weekend, both individually and as a team?

THOMAS DETRY: There's only one answer to that: Just keep being aggressive. I think I've seen some lower temperatures tomorrow, as well, and some high winds maybe in the afternoon. It's going to be another battle.

I think we've got some grinders on the team, TP and myself and DJ, as well, and Miguel, too. I like to be chasing behind. Seven shots behind, and no, there's only one word: Stay aggressive.

Q. Thomas, is it satisfying or does it mean anything that your first tournament, you're halfway through, you're in contention, you're making an early statement that you're going to be somebody to contend with? Is that something that's kind of nice to have, that quick start right out of the gate as you join this new league?

THOMAS DETRY: Yeah, definitely. I like to make statements, and especially my first sort of job, first week for me out here. There's loads of different things.

Again, I didn't really know what to expect, how I was going to react to it, and I put a lot of hard work the last couple of weeks with my coach at home, and I feel like it's all paying off, too.

I've taken a couple of weeks off there, like all December, and I was really able to work on a couple of good things, and it's all showing off quite nicely. No, it's nice to be out here, and like I said yesterday, I'm just really enjoying it. It's just fun.

Q. Obviously we were talking earlier about the team competition. Have you got a sense yet of what that team -- contending from a team standpoint is, because especially from an Aces standpoint they haven't won in a couple of years. You could be part of something pretty special from a team standpoint right off the bat, too. Have you gotten a sense of the team aspect of the competition?

THOMAS DETRY: Yeah, definitely. It doesn't really come -- I want to say it doesn't really come naturally because I've played the last 10 years as a pro sort of playing individually, so you never really think about a team.

I was sort of out there taking care of my business, and suddenly I saw the leaderboard with the 4Aces popping up, and that sort of reminded me that I was also playing for the team, which is great. You see my teammates, I think DJ struggled a little bit yesterday, and I think he fought back hard again today. It's nice to see that the guys are there to carry each other and show up when they need to.

Q. Was it interesting to warm up with the guys? You're all there in that same area.

THOMAS DETRY: Yeah, it's amazing. Team physio, team warmups, we do everything together. We travel together. We have dinners together. We do breakfast together. It's a bit different compared to being a lone wolf on the road, which I have been doing for the last 10 years. No, it's really nice, and it gives you a little bit of comfort because we're technically all in the same boat. We're all under pressure, and we're all going through the motions, so it's nice to be surrounded by friends.

Q. A lot of Belgian waffles?

THOMAS DETRY: Not yet. Not yet. We'll keep those for the summer.
