AFRICA AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP

February 4, 2026

Charl Barnard

Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa

Quick Quotes

Q. Charl, you finished 4-under today. Tell me how you feel after that round.

CHARL BARNARD: Yeah, I mean, I played pretty solid. Pity about the last two holes, only 1-over on the last two holes. But overall I'm pretty happy with how I played.

Q. Great eagle on the 8th. Tell me about that, as well.

CHARL BARNARD: Yeah, I hit a great drive down the middle, and then I had 6-iron in, put it to about six feet and then made the putt. It was a cool eagle.

Q. It's hot out there; how are you finding it?

CHARL BARNARD: Yeah, it's fine. I think I'm used to the heat by now. Lucky we're not at Leopard Creek; it would have been a lot worse.

Q. I know it's early in the championship, but how much confidence does that give you early in the week?

CHARL BARNARD: Yeah, definitely a lot. I think my ball-striking was really good today, so that gives me a lot of confidence going into the next few days.

Q. Two birdies on the back and front nine. How were you feeling about that?

CHARL BARNARD: Yeah, really good. I think the back nine I kind of played a little bit more conservatively and just tried to keep the drops off the card. Those two birdies were very welcome.
