AFRICA AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP

February 3, 2026

Bobbi Brown

Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa

Quick Quotes

Q. Have you played here before?

BOBBI BROWN: Yeah, I'm actually a member here. We joined, and we got -- you know those houses they're building, the apartments? We've got one of those, well, we bought one, so it's kind of getting both because Cape Town is just so hectic the way it is.

Q. How does it feel to be here at Royal Joburg playing the African Amateur? I know this is your home course.

BOBBI BROWN: Yeah, it's really exciting to be back here. Just even being back in Joburg with a little bit less wind than Cape Town and really nice golf courses, so it's really exciting to be back playing.

Q. You know the course a little bit?

BOBBI BROWN: Yes, we've played quite a few competitions here, so I would say I know the course pretty well. I played really well here last time this year in the Golf RSA International Amateur and I finished quite low, so it's nice to know I can do it on this golf course, but yeah, no expectations.

Q. The Africa Amateur, this will be your third time playing, came second, so maybe third time's a charm?

BOBBI BROWN: I mean, I hope so, but just stick to my processes and hope for the best.

Q. What experience can you draw on from the last two championships?

BOBBI BROWN: I think just staying patient, and you never know what the other girls are going to do. Even if you have a bad first couple rounds, you never know.

Q. Having this tournament, how important is that to golf in Africa and the opportunities it brings?

BOBBI BROWN: Yeah, I think it's super cool, like the opportunity that the R&A gives us and the rest of everyone coming from all over Africa. I think everyone looks forward to this competition probably more than any other competition in the year. Not just what you can do when you win, but just being here and everything the R&A provides us with, like the recovery zones, the players' lounge. It's just a great experience, so it's really cool.

Q. Are you making lots of friends with other players?

BOBBI BROWN: Yeah, it's cool. I'm meeting people from around Africa. You never get to play with other people unless I go over to Europe, but it's a nice different crowd. It's always nice to meet new people, yeah.

Q. Who inspires you in golf?

BOBBI BROWN: Yeah, I don't know. Nelly Korda, she's just got the most beautiful swing ever, so I think she inspires me.

Q. Is there anyone who introduced you to the game?

BOBBI BROWN: I guess my dad got me into the game and playing with me when I was younger. I didn't have many friends to play with, so it was just my dad. I guess he got me into it.

Q. What do you love about golf?

BOBBI BROWN: Golf is a chance to express myself through sport and just have fun, and it's really nice that my dad has given me the opportunity to do something like golf where I can just live life and do what I want.

Q. Coming second the last couple years, how do you use that to mentally prepare to be here for this week?

BOBBI BROWN: I guess I'm not too sure. It's usually like with us amateur girls, it's the same competition week in and week out, and now there's a few other girls from Africa. You never know what they're going to bring. But I guess it feels the same playing against the same girls really. I don't think it really matters that I've come second. Whether I'd won it or come 10th place, I don't think it would change anything. I'm still just here to try to win.

Q. The Africa Amateur Championship began a few years ago. Have you seen the standard of competition rise?

BOBBI BROWN: Yeah, I think a lot of the South African girls. I'm not too sure about the other African girls, but a lot of the South African girls have taken their golf quite a few levels higher, and yeah, I definitely think the standard will be quite high this year.
