Press Conference
THE MODERATOR: Very pleased to be joined by former champion and winner from last season, Brooke Henderson, here to the Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions.
Brooke, talk about getting to be back here at Lake Nona and kicking off your season here.
BROOKE HENDERSON: Yeah, I'm so excited to be back. I'm always so grateful for the opportunity to come back and play here. Late last summer it was looking like I might not have the invitation back, so I was so grateful for that win in Canada to get invited back.
To be here among the celebrities and the past winners from the past two years is so cool. Such a unique and fun event. I'm just really happy to be back.
Q. How would you assess your game heading into this week and the season and what are some things you've been still working on?
BROOKE HENDERSON: Yeah, for sure. I enjoyed a nice break over the offseason, like two and a half weeks without playing golf, which felt like a really long time. I felt a little guilty for that, but it was nice way to kind of reset. Since then, just trying to get the game back into a good spot.
Feel like I put in some really good work with my sister and my dad. Yeah, really excited to tee it up this week and looking forward to testing it against all the other great players here.
Q. Lots of exciting off-the-course news. Start with member of the WTGL. Just talk about your excitement to play on that stage.
BROOKE HENDERSON: Yeah, absolutely. I'm so excited to have that opportunity to play. I love the team competition. Playing last year at International Crown on the World Team last year was a huge highlight of my entire career, so to have that team competition and join WTGL, have that team competition, and just be surrounded by such a different atmosphere, the innovative technology and have the crowd so close, I don't know, I'm just really looking forward to competing later this year.
Q. Obviously very exciting news with your sister and caddie. How excited are you to be Aunt Brooke?
BROOKE HENDERSON: Yeah, I'm so excited. I couldn't be happier for Brit and Zach. It's going to change a lot of things. It's going to be an exciting new chapter. I just can't wait. I'm going spoil that kid a lot.
Q. What was the process of you beginning this process knowing this will be your last week with your sister, of looking for a new caddie, and finding John?
BROOKE HENDERSON: Yeah, this week was actually a bit of a bonus. I didn't know she would -- when I found out, I didn't know she would be caddieing this week, so I'm just really grateful for the opportunity that she's going to do one more week and we get to share this journey together a little bit longer.
It's been so fun over the last ten season and 13 wins together. It's just been so cool. So I'm definitely going miss her a lot and I'm also looking forward to the challenge and just trying to grow personally when she's gone. Y9ou know, we traveled together so much, so it's going to be a lot different. I am looking forward to having John in Asia for the Asian Swing. He has so much experience on the LPGA Tour and he's a really great friend of the family, too. I think it will be pretty smooth, but I will definitely miss my sister.
Q. What do you think your sister has contributed most to your on-course success that you're going to really miss?
BROOKE HENDERSON: I think being my best friend. I could tell her anything and she kind of knew how to help me in any situation on or off the course. And just so much trust. Coming down the stretch when I needed big shots or handling pressure, I just really could trust in her.
Like I said, she knew exactly what to say or what not to say in those moments. I think that's probably going to be the biggest thing, is just the closeness and the relationship we shared together.
But there is a lot of things. Yeah, but like I said, I'm just really happy and excited for her to start this new chapter in her life.
Q. You're one of the first to sign up for WTGL. Nelly Korda was asked about it yesterday and said she felt like it was a big miss that you guys weren't going to be playing with the men. Do you agree with those comments?
BROOKE HENDERSON: I'm just super excited to have the opportunity to play WTGL. I think it's so cool and I'm so happy that women are involved. I think it's going to be a lot of fun to showcase the personalities of the LPGA Tour players and the talent we have.
I think it's an incredible platform. I'm excited that I have the opportunity to be a part of that. Maybe down the road if there is a mixed event that would be cool. I always enjoy playing with Corey at Grant Thornton, but for right I think this is amazing for women and I'm excited to be in it.
Q. When you talk about Brit and everything she's meant to you on the golf course, what do you think will translate to motherhood from caddieing from your little sister all these years?
BROOKE HENDERSON: Honestly, she is always looking after me. My entire life she's always been looking after me and making sure that I don't do anything dumb. I think she's going to be an incredible mother. She's really kind and loving and very wise. On the course she's very analytical, smart.
I think just having that also on the other side, loving and caring and always aware of danger, risks, water, hazards, she is just going to be a great mom.
Q. How did she share the news with you? You don't have to share explicit details. What was your reaction when she told you and the family?
BROOKE HENDERSON: Yeah, I was super excited for her and I had to keep a secret for a really long time. So I was just like beyond. I love little kids and I'm just really happy for her and Z.
Q. Talked about the 13 wins. What are the highlights for the two of you on the golf course?
BROOKE HENDERSON: Yeah, definitely the wins, two majors, the Olympics, three Olympic Games. The International Crown was super cool as well, to be a part of the first World Team ever. I'm just really proud of all the things we overcame in some of our tough years, or tough months or weeks.
Just being able to have somebody by your side. She helped me through a lot of tough times and helped me in a lot of really great times. It was just an incredible partnership that we had and still have this week.
Q. (Regarding 29 different winners.) What does that tell about the depth, talent for yourself going into 2026? What does that tell you about where everything shakes out?
BROOKE HENDERSON: Yeah, the LPGA Tour, I think we have amazing players from all around the globe. Every year it just continues to strengthen and deepen in talent. It's pretty amazing that we had 29 different winners last year all in a row. That was pretty incredible.
Yeah, just kind of shows the talent and how far of a stretch we have around the globe. People are coming from everywhere. But Nelly is still an incredible player and had a lot of amazing finishes last year. I'm sure she'll rack in a few wins this year.
Q. You know much about going to Riviera this year for one major? Going to be playing in Houston where the men play the PGA TOUR event. What do you now about the majors? Will that be a good thing playing where the men play or what are your thoughts on that?
BROOKE HENDERSON: Yeah, I always love when we have the opportunity to play where the men have played. It really elevates our game and shows how we would play those courses versus how the men have played. It just adds a lot of the prestige and it's a really exciting time for us to have the opportunity to play these iconic courses.
Definitely before those events I'll be watching some footage on TV and trying to see how they play different shots. I'm really excited for all of our major venues this year.
Q. Brooke, something that you mentioned in the opening statement, that you got to a point in the season where you're thinking you may not get to come back here. In the middle of a grind of a season do those thoughts cross a professional player's mind?
BROOKE HENDERSON: Yeah, for sure. There is a lot of doubts I think in golf. I think the fewer you have the better you are. Last year I wasn't playing as well as I typically have during my time on Tour, so it was a little concerning there for a little bit, but winning in Canada and able to finish the rest of the season off really strongly, so that was really nice for me.
Like I said, I'm just really grateful to be back here because everyone is fighting for an opportunity to play here and for this invitation.
Q. And we've had cold tournaments here before; maybe nothing like this. What's the coldest competition you've ever played in?
BROOKE HENDERSON: Yeah, growing up in Canada there was a lot of cold junior events when I was younger. Like spring, late fall, for sure they were very chilly.
Other than that, coming to mind it's just maybe here a couple days -- usually like Sunday here at this event is really chilly in the morning, but this week I think it's going to be very cold pretty much every day.
Q. Does that give you an advantage?
BROOKE HENDERSON: Like five years ago I would've said definitely. Now I live in Florida and I'm not so good in the cold anymore.
Q. Two questions. What were some of the highlights from the offseason for you?
BROOKE HENDERSON: Definitely going to an Ottawa Senators game and having an opportunity to drop the puck. Got to interact with some of the players too, which was really fun for me. I just love hockey and being back home in Canada.
Yeah. Just spending time with family and friends was probably No. 1 in Canada. I've been spending a lot time in Florida, too, where it's nice and warm usually. Not this week but usually.
So, yeah, I did a lot of fun things and spent a lot of the time with really great people.
Q. Secondly, did you mess around with your putter? Did you do any putter testing, check out the long putter?
BROOKE HENDERSON: I did quickly check out long putter, but I still have the putter that I won the Canadian Open with so I'm really happy with it.
