ADELAIDE INTERNATIONAL

January 14, 2026

Maya Joint

Adelaide, South Australia, Australia

Press Conference

M. JOINT/ A. Tomljanovic

0-2 (Ret.)

THE MODERATOR: Maya, obviously not the way you maybe wanted to get the win today, but you're into the quarterfinals in Adelaide. Tell us about the experience of being in another quarterfinal.

MAYA JOINT: Yeah, I hope Ajla can get better really soon. I know AO is next week. I'm sure that she wanted a couple more matches here, and I hope that she can get better really fast.

I'm happy that I'm in the quarters, get a chance to play against Mirra who I haven't played before. Yeah, just hope that I can play some good tennis tomorrow.

Q. Can you give us some insight into what sort of scouting you'll do on Mirra. You haven't played her before as you mentioned there, but what sort of research do you do into her game, and what do you have to do to be prepared in the lead up to that game?

MAYA JOINT: I'll maybe watch a match recording of hers. I'll look up some spots of her serving spots, where she likes to go on big points. Just kind of get a feel of what I might be facing.

Q. Is it a case where you concentrate more so on what you're doing than overly on what Mirra might present to you?

MAYA JOINT: Yeah, I'll start off playing my game, and then if that doesn't work then I'll try and find something different.

Q. Did you get a chance to speak with Ajla at all after the match, and I guess how is she going?

MAYA JOINT: I haven't been able to speak to her. I went back out and hit some more after. But she seemed pretty bummed out that she couldn't play, so I just hope that she can rest up.

Q. Obviously it's devastating for her, but I guess what's it like for you seeing that, obviously during right at the start of the match, and then having to go from this match to preparing for tomorrow so soon?

MAYA JOINT: Yeah, I mean, anything can happen in tennis. Yeah, I think I'm just I'm glad to get another match here in Adelaide. So many people came out today and were ready to support, so I hope there's another big crowd tomorrow and just have a good match.

Q. When that type of situation's happening, you know, obviously the physio is called and MTOs. What are you, at your chair, I know you went out to serve a little bit, but what are you thinking, how do you stay focused? I know it was early in the match, just from your perspective, how are you staying locked in when there's a delay like that?

MAYA JOINT: Just keep telling myself that she's going to come back out and she's going to play. I try not to think that she's going to pull out or that the match is over and that I've already won. Just try and stay focused, stay in the moment, don't think that you've already won. Because I made that mistake before and it didn't go my way.

Q. You're still focused on Adelaide, you just spoke about playing Mirra today. Tomorrow the AO draw will be released. It will be the first time you're seeded at a slam, so congrats on that. The idea of being seeded at the Australian Open and to know it will be at your home slam as well.

MAYA JOINT: Yeah, really excited that I'll be able to be seeded. Special that it's going to be at AO, my home slam. Yeah, I'm excited to see who I'm going to draw. It's always a bit nerve wracking seeing the draw come out for the first time, but, yeah.

Q. Would you just, maybe it's a different question, but would you rather like to know that information before your match against Mirra, or do you want to know after, or you don't really care?

MAYA JOINT: I presume I'll know before, but I think I would rather know after.

Q. Fun question. Right now the 1 Point Slam is going on in Melbourne, you're obviously here in Adelaide, but is that something that you would be open to doing in the future?

MAYA JOINT: Yeah, it sounds really fun. I think I would be super nervous and I would probably double fault, but, yeah, I hope one year I can be able to play it.

Q. If you won the toss you would, or rock, paper, scissors, you would choose to receive?

MAYA JOINT: Yeah.
