Quick Quotes

THE MODERATOR: Jordan, how would you compare the two rounds, opening round and today?

JORDAN SPIETH: I thought they were really similar. I thought they were actually almost identical. I thought I played really well in the wind, and, yeah, think I maybe hit a few less fairways today. Maybe a couple. But it was so hard this morning.

I hit a 7-iron into that 15th hole. I had maybe 158 hole and I think it went 120 yards and I played it like 175. So it was just very challenging at times. And on the greens it just becomes really hard to make putts when it's that windy.

And then so all in all, they were pretty similar conditions the two days. Wind was a little bit different direction and I felt like I had the same amount of chances.

You know, ideally I capitalized on maybe two more per round. That wouldn't have been surprising where I'm at. It's really nice that I feel like I didn't steal anything out of round today.

All in all, the two days were about how I was going to play. I was either going to shoot 2- to 4-under and I ended up on the low side, so hopefully tomorrow I hit putts a little bit harder and be a little bit freer on the greens and shoot a score.

It's going to continue to be windy.

Q. When it's windy like this, do you enjoy the fact you have to be more creative in shotmaking?

JORDAN SPIETH: Yeah, definitely. It's also a really good gauge on where you are at. Your timing has to be on. You have to hit shots that are uncomfortable. You hit clubs that feel like if they feel like going to go way over the green and if they do it would be awful, and you just have to trust them, take some off, work it both ways.

So, yeah, like you said, you have to be more creative, but being creative would show you where things are at. In the last couple years if it were like this I would've been in a tough spot. It's good to know things are better and getting better, and I'm really excited about what was to come.

I just got to make some more putts.

Q. If you were to take one thing out of the two rounds that you feel like, wow, this is exponentially better than last year, what would that be?

JORDAN SPIETH: Just my approach game, controlling shots both ways with irons and wedges. My wedge play feels significantly better than even ones that -- like today on the 8th hole. Landed a foot from the hole and was trying to land it three feet past the hole.

So I missed my spot by three feet from 121 yards. Problem is I didn't expect when it was pumping downwind to rip 15 feet because some greens are and some greens aren't. Like that shot was way better than the result and almost all my shots from 150 in have been to any liking.

That's a significant improvement and that's where a lot of the scoring comes from.
