Quick Quotes

THE MODERATOR: Kevin, 8-under 62 two start. Let's start with the front nine. Go out in 30. Talk us through that.

KEVIN ROY: Yeah, got off to a little bit of a squirrely start. Had to make a couple par putts on the first two holes and kind of settled in after that. Hit a lot of good shoots, you know, 3 through 9. You know, got to take advantage of the par-5s out here, which I did.

Yeah, saw a couple putts go. Yeah, it was a really good start.

Q. Having to make those par putts at the start of your round, does that do anything for you mentally, get you kind of in check to start the day?

KEVIN ROY: Yeah, for sure. You know, I had a couple butterflies on the first hole, first tournament of the season. So just, yeah, it's huge to see those putts go in. I hit really good putts and obviously fell in the bottom the cup. Just carried that momentum for the rest of the round.

Q. You were telling radio about your approach shot on the 18th. Can you walk us through that?

KEVIN ROY: Yeah, it's a weird wind. It's in off the right. I love off the right, but obviously if you're going to get aggressive you got to hit a big ole draw. I hit a 3-wood. I hit it perfect.

I just knew I probably couldn't carry that bunker on the line I took, but we 6also knew that bunker is not the end of the world as long as you're not up against the lip.

We got up there. The ball was sitting pretty. We had a favorable wind kind of down off the right from there and it was just a perfect 4-iron. Caught it clean and came out perfect.

Q. How did you spend your offseason?

KEVIN ROY: Yeah, a lot of down time with my wife and daughter. Took a couple weeks off after '25 and then put in some really good work with my short game coach, Ralph, and swing coach Dustin. Played a bunch of golf with friends and family. It was nice to be home for a while.

Q. So you felt good coming in this week?

KEVIN ROY: Yeah, I did. I think my swing is in a really good spot. Put some really good work in. Couple small changes, but was playing really good golf coming to Hawai'i, so nice to see it in-tournament.
