Quick Quotes
THE MODERATOR: Anson, obviously a tough day, but getting the first round done here at the Sony, talk about that and getting the chance to actually tee off and play.
ANSON CABELLO: I mean, shoot, despite the score I had a lot of fun out there. I mean, off the first tee I hit one into the grandstands because I was kind of nervous. It is what it is.
I just didn't play very well off the tee. That's the most important part about this course is making sure you find fairways. Through the first probably 13, 14 holes I did a really bad job of that. Something to work on and something I can do a little better tomorrow.
Q. Knowing you still have tomorrow to try and better your score, just was that kind of the biggest thing that you learned, was the tee box and trying to block out the side noise?
ANSON CABELLO: To be honest, the outside noise didn't really affect me that much. It was more just came down to just me not playing -- just me not playing how I normally play.
And so it's just one of those days where you just got to take it as a lesson and improve from there.
Q. Talk about -- I know you had a pretty good gallery today. Talk about what that meant to you to have that support throughout your round today.
ANSON CABELLO: Yeah, I mean, like I played really bad today and it just meant a lot to see them continue to follow me despite all that happening. I'm sure for them it was pretty ugly to watch. I'm so grateful for the people I have around me, they're so supportive. They support me through thick and thin.
Q. I asked this of Corey when he came in as well. As an up-and-coming player in Hawai'i, what does it mean to be in this event, especially with the uncertain future of Sony Open?
ANSON CABELLO: It's just so cool being in this event. You're on the range with all the best players in the world, you're practicing with them.
And then you get to test yourself on the same playing conditions, just everything.
So it's just such a blessing to be out here.
Q. And is it on your mind on the all that this -- no one knows if this might be the last one?
ANSON CABELLO: On the course, no. I mean, it's just something that I have in the back of my head. I really hope this event comes back. That way I can maybe give it another shot, yeah.
