BRISBANE INTERNATIONAL

January 8, 2026

Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard

Brisbane, Queensland, Australia

Press Conference

G.M. PERRICARD/R. Hijikata

4-6, 7-6, 7-6

THE MODERATOR: It was a really close game out there today. You must be happy to get that win.

GIOVANNI MPETSHI PERRICARD: Yeah, for sure. I'm very happy to get the win. It was a tough match. Very tense at the end of the second set and third set, but yeah, very happy to be in the quarterfinal.

THE MODERATOR: Questions in English.

Q. How tough to play for you like not a tall guy like Rinky? How tough to play for you against...

GIOVANNI MPETSHI PERRICARD: I mean, it's tricky, because he's a fast player. I mean, a lot of -- I'm not going to say small player, but a lot of smaller than me, very fast. They have skills with the defense and everything. It's always tough for me to be aggressive, trying to put some pressure.

But, yeah, I did a great match with the serve and volley and everything. That's the biggest weapon against that kind of player.

Q. How much do you know about your next opponent, Aleksandar Kovacevic?

GIOVANNI MPETSHI PERRICARD: Not a lot. Not a lot. He's a great player. He did the final last year in Montpellier, so it means that he can win a lot of matches and some good matches.

Yeah, he's one-handed backhand. I think he's, I don't know, aggressive player from the baseline. That's what I can say for the moment. Yeah, it's going to be a tough battle.
