PNC CHAMPIONSHIP

December 21, 2025

David Duval

Orlando, Florida, USA

The Ritz-Carlton Golf Club

Press Conference

Q. Good what did you like about your game and being together?

BRADY DUVAL: You know, the important thing is, you know, the time spent with the family, the sons, daughters, mothers and dads, that's the main focus is having fun, laughing, smiling.

Didn't have my best stuff yesterday. Kind of got into a little bit of a rhythm today. We had a few lipouts. Gave ourselves more chances to score a little bit better and just trying to get into a rhythm.

We made a few putts today. Played good. Could have been a couple shots better, but overall, very happy with the tournament.

DAVID DUVAL: Good days. Good week. You know, there is a competitive nature to it. We were one of the teams. We both played well. Good things happen, we do have a chance. But like Brady said, first and foremost, I was trying to laugh and smile walking down the fairway. There's enough stress involved with everything else.

The golf itself, I was pleased with the golf. Similar to like last couple years, some of the putts just didn't quite go in. Could have been a little bit of a different scenario for us, but hopefully get another chance next year and hopefully we'll make them next year.

Q. You're saying with some of those putts, how did you lean off of each other and pick the other one up as it didn't go the way that you wanted?

DAVID DUVAL: It's straightforward. It is a team game. And so when you're out there playing, the game's hard, and everybody, both of us are going to hit bad shots. We're going to hit bad tee shots. You're going to hit good ones. It's just covering your partner when you're playing and realizing at times you're going to take care of business.

Like I hit or he hit, and sometimes you're going to be left on an island and got to take care of it yourself. That's just the nature of this game and the nature of the format. I think that's some of the fun of it, really, being out there I've got to count on him at times and vice versa.

Q. When you talk about bad shots that are going to happen, but over the course of your career, did you find it easier to accept a bad shot when you were younger or when you were -- had been around for 15, 20 years?

DAVID DUVAL: It's easier -- it was easier, younger, I think for sure. I think it's more because of an age thing. You know, there's not -- you don't have that scar tissue. He's playing in college. He's competing in these. You know, he has hasn't 5-putted twice in a PGA TOUR like I have, you know. He hasn't made a 9 or a 10 on holes in tournaments, and rattled more flags when you're in 5th place and finished 15th,, you know, the scar tissue that builds up over years of professional golf. Every player here has that. It's almost easier.

But at the same time, with that being said, you know it happens, and so you do your best to shrug it off and water off the back and move on.

Q. The other question I had is getting here. You both enjoy it very much. But how do you find out and what kind of day is that like? Do you get a phone call or invitation like Augusta? What's the reaction?

DAVID DUVAL: It's an e-mail invite, yes, and we've got -- we've been fortunate to get them as early as maybe late August and as late as late October.

So when August rolls around, kind of chomping at the bit, checking to see if something might show up from Alastair because it's really kind of not guaranteed, I don't think. But with that being said, it's exciting.

Actually, he was in -- he was back down in school when we got it. I think it was about late August this year, early September. And you know, he had just gotten down there, been there a few weeks. And I'm like, Well, we got the invite, so we're in for another year. So here we go, let's get ready.

Q. Did you ever wait for the phone call or e-mail?

BRADY DUVAL: Counting down the days in August. Jumping up and down for excitement when he called me and told me we got the official invite. That's great news.

Q. What's the most enjoyable thing about playing golf with your dad?

BRADY DUVAL: Just the fun aspect. You know, we got all of our family here. You know, me and him, we play a lot, a lot together. Do fun little matches, compete against each other.

But it gives us an opportunity to compete together and lean off each other we know each other's game very well. And it just more about the fun. We both -- when we're playing good, we can definitely give it a hundred here. It's just mostly the fun aspect, I feel like.

Q. And you, David?

DAVID DUVAL: I'll play a match with him as long as he gives me the up tees. We do play straight up. I play one round a year at the beginning of the year from the back tees, the BMW tees back home at Castle Pines. Only time I go back there. I played quite well this year, I think I shot even par. I think it was on opening day, wasn't it? Brady beat me by seven that day, which is too much. But as long as he gives me the up tees, we can have good matches.

Q. Looks like the Kuchars are going to break the scoring record. There was talk yesterday that 13 pairs shot 10-under or better on the day. What's the quality that we see out here? It's a scramble and all that but seems like the quality goes up year after year.

DAVID DUVAL: Without question. It kind of seemed a decade ago, if you broke 60 each day, you had a very good chance to win the event. I think now you've got to push 30, 28 minimum, probably. I think it's just -- and it just kind of goes to the level of play in all of golf. Better learning, better teaching. They hit it further. They put it better. All these things, it just adds up, and I think it's just translated into this event, as well.

Q. How good -- and I know you had your own game to worry about -- but when you see the Kuchars are at 27, 28, and they may get to 30, how good is that out here?

DAVID DUVAL: It's excellent, and hats off to them. That's hitting quality golf shots and that's making putts. If they end up getting to 30, you're talking about only six holes missed in 36 holes. That's remarkable.

But that's kind of the benchmark we set. Like when we kind of come in, we're like we need to get to 28-, 30-under par to have a chance because you know right now somebody is going to do it. That's how well the guys are playing and the kids are playing.

Q. A memory lapse here --

DAVID DUVAL: You're old.

Q. I tend to remember when you won at Lytham, Bern was with you and that meant something a little extra to you. Why was that?

DAVID DUVAL: He was one of my golfing idols, in a way. I like watching him play. I like the method, the methodical approach he had. It seemed from the outside, not knowing him, when I was younger, watching him move around the go, as you've heard, it's very much like chess, and he seemed to be very good at that when I was watching as a younger person, and I think that was why.

Q. Did you ever tell him that?

DAVID DUVAL: I believe so. Maybe not but I believe so.

Q. Did you guys talk much that final day?

DAVID DUVAL: I don't think so. I was way in front of him off the tee (laughs).
