THE MODERATOR: We're now joined by two-time defending champions Bernhard and Jason Langer here at the PNC Championship. Start for both of you, how excited are you to be back here this week?
JASON LANGER: Super excited. This event is a family tradition for us. We've been here pretty much every year I think. Me, my siblings have all played. It's definitely a highlight of the calendar for us.
It's nice that it's around the holidays and can we get to come together as a family.
BERNHARD LANGER: For me it's a thrill, too. I think it's my 20th year at the PNC Championship and it's wonderful to have our kids inside the ropes, outside the ropes. As Jason said it's a family affair. Everybody participants in some way, shape, or form, whether playing, caddieing, or cheering from outside the ropes.
It's an easy commute for us from Boca Raton. It's a great venue. PNC has done a wonderful job elevating the event and people enjoy watching it on television as well as in life.
THE MODERATOR: As we flash back to last year, you guys had a great back nine duel on Sunday against Tiger experience Charlie Woods. Can you talk about what memories stood out from that day and what you remember from a year ago?
JASON LANGER: Yeah, it was really special day. Obviously playing with Tiger and Charlie was something I'll never forget. Yeah, I remember it being really close. I think we were pretty much tied the whole day or at least within one shot.
What stuck out to me was how well dad putted on the back nine. He made everything, and that really kind of kept us in it.
Yeah, playing 18 twice, I hit a couple good iron shots into 18 which was good. You know, we made the eagle putt to win which was pretty special.
BERNHARD LANGER: Yeah, I remember Charlie making a hole-in-one on No. 4 I think, his first one ever, so that was pretty cool, and how excited Tiger was as a dad. So that was fun to be a part of.
And then, yeah, same thing. It was a see-saw battle all day long. Nobody got more than one shot ahead. We hung in there and Jason hit a couple really nice irons into 18. We missed the first putt for eagle first time around; second time we snuck it in there and were able to beat the Woods.
JASON LANGER: Yeah.
Q. For Jason, how do you feel about your game coming into this week?
JASON LANGER: Yeah, it's definitely rusty. I don't play much these days, especially this time of year. It's cold up in New York. So I got one or two rounds in over Thanksgiving and that was the last time I played since yesterday.
So trying to shake the rust off, and most importantly if I can make a few putts this weekend that will be the best way to contribute.
Q. First, I want to say congratulations to the Langer family for winning the most times at the PNC Championship, and twice with your son Stefan and four times with your son Jason.
BERNHARD LANGER: Thank you. That's very kind. Appreciate it. It's always fun winning, and yeah, the sons have done very well. I've enjoyed playing with my daughters, too, but I guess they're not quite as good of putter or golfer, so we haven't won it yet with the daughters.
The sons did very well, especially Jason was the youngest to win it in the history of the tournament I think. And to have won it four times -- how many times have you played?
JASON LANGER: I'm not sure. Maybe seven, eight, something like that.
BERNHARD LANGER: Yeah, it's pretty special.
Q. Also, when the Chiefs made it to the Super Bowl earlier this year the world was waiting to see if they would win three Super Bowls in a row. Sadly they didn't, but the world is still waiting for a three-peat this year. Since you're back-to-back champions of the PNC Championship, will Team Langer deliver the three-peat that was promised in 2025?
BERNHARD LANGER: Well, we will give it our best. We can't promise. In golf you never know what's going to happen around the corner. We certainly enjoy being here and having the opportunity to maybe do it.
Q. And also, this question is for Jason. Your dad is extremely serious and I love seeing him in the PNC Championship because he's always one of the last people to leave practice and is always giving 100% effort. Did your dad teach you how to golf?
JASON LANGER: He did. He was my coach for pretty much my whole life growing up and in college. So he was a great dad, great coach. Learned a lot from him on and off the golf course.
Yeah, he's definitely very diligent in his own practice and conditioning and learned a lot through his example.
Q. Thank you so, so much.
BERNHARD LANGER: You're welcome.
Q. Bernhard, after winning a couple with Stefan and maybe one with him, all of a sudden the record of the Floyds come into play. You're a goal setting guy. Did you take a look at that at any point and say maybe we can rule the PNC Championship?
BERNHARD LANGER: You know, not really. Whenever we play we would like to do the best we can, and it turned out pretty good that we were able to win six times, which I think is far more than anybody else has done, right.
Q. One more than the Floyds.
BERNHARD LANGER: Okay, so they had won five. I didn't know that. I knew the Floyds and Nelsons had won a number of times. Yeah, very blessed and fortunate to have them bettered by one so far. (Smiling.)
Q. Now, they did three-peat early on, so there is one you can still match.
BERNHARD LANGER: Okay.
Q. Jason, when you're born into a family that just loves golf, you're exposed to it, but at some point you have to embrace it yourself. I was curious if you would share a little bit about your journey falling in love with golf yourself and not just being your dad's son.
JASON LANGER: Sure. Definitely grew up around golf. It was a big part of our life and family growing up, but I played all -- every sport growing up. I really loved soccer; that was my favorite.
Didn't take golf as seriously until later on. There was never any pressure from my dad and parents to play golf in particular. Yeah, wasn't until probably eighth or ninth grade that I started to take golf a little bit more seriously, played more junior events and decided that I wanted to try to play in college.
It was really my own motivation and decision, which I think was kind of better that way for me to really want it for myself.
Q. Bernhard, if you could get your point of view on that. As a farther, we all want or kids to do whatever they want to do.
BERNHARD LANGER: Absolutely.
Q. But the fact that he did embrace golf and that you were able to coach him to such a high level.
BERNHARD LANGER: Yeah, I think all our four kids loved golf at some point in their life. We lived on a golf course so they got exposed to it, whether they just initially enjoyed riding the golf cart or getting a treat. The attention span was very short when they were very little.
They've all embraced the game and they're all pretty decent players in their own rights. Nobody ever was a superstar by winning all the junior events or all the college events or any of that, but they're all very, very good golfers, decent golfers.
We have fun playing together.
Q. Happy holidays. Bernhard, golf is obviously a very individual sport. At the TOUR level, you're had so much success there. How does it compare to winning a tournament with one of your kids and especially during this holiday season?
BERNHARD LANGER: Yeah, I don't think it gets any better than winning with your kids. It's just very unique that we can even do this. Most other sports you can't -- soccer player, football player, you can't usually bring their kids in and compete. Doesn't happen in most sports.
So we're very lucky and fortunate to do it, and it just -- everybody has a good time, whether they're caddieing or whether they're playing and competing. They all just enjoy spending time with each other and playing this great game.
Q. Jason, if you helped deliver a third belt for dad in a row, does that take away from how much you have to get him for Christmas?
JASON LANGER: I don't know. I don't know. Probably aged out of a lot of Christmas gifts. But it would be a nice gift. I would say our goal this weekend is to really just enjoy the event, enjoy the time with family, and the fact that we get to do this together and I'm sure we will regardless the result.
Q. What was the reaction like when you got back to the office after the big win last year?
JASON LANGER: Yeah, it was great. There is definitely a lot of golfers that I work with. We went home for the holidays directly after the win so I didn't see most people until January, but got a lot of emails and texts that night. I think the firm definitely loved playing with Tiger and ultimately taking him down.
