THE MODERATOR: We are joined by Sei Young Kim, leader in the clubhouse after the third round. Please raise your hand if you have a question.
I'll start by asking one. How would you describe your play today?
SEI YOUNG KIM: Yes, so I have many family members that came to see me as well as my friends. Going to a lot of energy from them, at the same time nervous because I wanted to do well. A lot of wind today, so really the front nine wasn't easy. Going to the back nine it wasn't easy either because of a lot of wind.
It really was a difficult round. The more I think, it really looks like the ones in Wales, the course condition and the level of difficulty, it really was similar. I was thinking maybe the wind wasn't as strong in Wales compared to this one, so that was my line of thought. Nevertheless I had many chances and good ones, at eagle, as well.
THE MODERATOR: In your home country, a lot fans, can you talk about how much you're enjoying yourself?
SEI YOUNG KIM: Yes, really it has been a while since I played golf with this many gallery on the course. I play in Korea every year but not as much in the last group that I have been playing. It has been really, really good and really feeling so much good energy and happiness, finding really great happiness playing as a golf player.
Q. I think tomorrow, too, is going to be another fight against the wind. So I want to hear your strategy, and also, are you almost getting the victory for this event, so do you have the confidence and what is your plan?
SEI YOUNG KIM: Yes, so tomorrow I heard that the wind isn't going to be that strong, according to the weather forecast. I heard that I can card better but you never know, I still have to keep my nerve level high and have to see how the weather unfolds. Because yesterday there was going to be a lot of winds but also the first day, too, so it's really going unexpected. You really have to see.
In terms of the chance of victory, yes, desperate to win. I had good chances leading up to this event, and I think that all accumulates to this good momentum.
Q. So you really have been playing well this year, and despite some of the slow pace that you have been doing in the past years, what has been the turning point making your season so great, and also, you're already kind of mid into your career; what would this mean to you?
SEI YOUNG KIM: Yes, I didn't have a win since then, I really had a very difficult time. Didn't really enjoy golf as much as I thought. I try to have some kind of goal since last year and really focus on what I'm good at. I think by looking at the past, I was becoming complacent, and maybe that's why I wasn't give such good performance. Last year I tried to accept the fact, the reality and tried to make a new start and tried to have the attitude of a rookie even though I'm not a rookie. That is the direction I would like to take for the rest of my golf career until I retire, and since that kind of motivation, I think my performance went up.
Q. Eun Hee Ji made her official retirement today. What has she meant to you for your career? Have you talked about her retirement, for example?
SEI YOUNG KIM: Well, I just found out that news from all of you that she made the retirement announce. I thought I was close to her but maybe I wasn't. Maybe I have to talk to her again. But I thought she was going to continue for a while because she's such a talented player. I mean, Eun Hee has been always a good senior player for us. She always acted as intermediator when I always had a quibble with Hyo Joo and Hye-Jin. But yes, I have to talk to her.
Q. So you're really strong on the par 5 holes. You make eagle on the first round today, as well, and we hope to see another eagle tomorrow, and if you are going to win, it's going to be a wire-to-wire victory. But like yesterday, there was some bogeys. Was that birdie because of the distance or you couldn't really get on to the green in two?
SEI YOUNG KIM: Yes, for the par 5 holes, I think there was a lot of bad wind. Also there were some holes that I did a lot of practice, like 15, for example. Of course, there is some disappointment. I think the short coming was from my short putts. So I make some placement on there and do more practice for the short putts tomorrow, I think I will do better tomorrow.
THE MODERATOR: Talking a little bit about the mindset that you're thinking heading into tomorrow, how do you balance the rookie mindset and also with the past experience that you have as a talented player heading into the final round?
SEI YOUNG KIM: So I don't think there's a right answer. You just have to deal with the situation, whichever that you have, so that's -- I think that's the homework that I have for tomorrow, and it's really a fight against myself. I think that applies to all sports games. I hope to succeed at that tomorrow.
So I'm going to do some practice on my short putts and have some gochujang chicken and have a good night's sleep.
