BMW LADIES CHAMPIONSHIP

October 16, 2025

Lindy Duncan

Busan, South Korea

LPGA International Busan

Quick Quotes

Q. Here after the first round of the BMW Ladies Championship. Can you speak to your day? One of our lowest rounds in a couple years, right?

LINDY DUNCAN: Yeah, I think 8-under might be my lowest on the LPGA. It was a really great day, bogey-free, had a lot of birdie chances and converted a lot of them. So it was a really fun day with Paul, Lydia's caddie and got the good vibes from Lyds this week. It was fun.

Q. Can you talk a little bit about how that came to be this week?

LINDY DUNCAN: Yeah, Lydia mentioned that she might not be playing this week and that if I wanted to use Paul, I was like, "Absolutely, yes, that would be incredible." I love Paul. We've played a lot of practice rounds together. So I know him really well, and working with him, you know, he's one of the best caddies I've ever worked with. He's so focused. He really knows my game, even after just a couple days, he just really can adapt. It's been amazing.

Q. During practice rounds and stuff like that, what's different about him compared to other caddies you've worked with?

LINDY DUNCAN: I think he's used to such a high standard of preparation with all the players in his past, and now with Lydia, and she's somebody I've always looked up to with how hard she works and the specifics she putts into the details of her work.

So it's something I've tried to emulate after her, and we only got to really play one practice round yesterday, and it was in some pretty gnarly conditions with some rain and some wind. So it was like me, this is what I'm feeling and see what happens, and Paul was just taking a lot of notes. It was a really cool way to have our first practice round today, because it was like a wild day but sometimes those days, you learn more.

Q. Can you talk about where your friendship with Lydia came about?

LINDY DUNCAN: I joined Lake Nona right before COVID in 2020. So she's a member there and she was living there, and we played together a bunch for a couple years. Her and her family have been so great to me and basically treat me like family. They are the best.

And just to watch her through some ups and downs and how hard she's worked through it all is just incredible. I tell people all the time, she's just way better of a person than everyone even thinks she's. She's just amazing. She's the best.

Q. And last week, you had Jan on the bag, this week, Paul. Can you talk about, not your strategy with caddies but how you go about getting caddies. You don't have the same one consistently, right?

LINDY DUNCAN: Consistently, yes, like a carousel of caddies. Just sort of happens. I'm friends with a lot of players and if they are to the going to play, either they or their caddie will reach out to me and ask if I have anyone. That's kind of like how I like to do it. It's worked well so far, and I get to work with some really great caddies.

I learn more, the more people that I work with. So I learn what I like, and I learn how to communicate better, and so it's been really helpful for me.

Q. You touched a little bit on that. Why do you think that's a strength of yours? I don't think there's many people like you that are doing this with their caddies; they have a consistent caddie?

LINDY DUNCAN: I think when I graduated college, I played Symetra Tour for two years and every week was a new caddie. So I got reused to that and that was out of necessity, or I would just Cheng check push my own cart. So that mindset of like being independent and taking responsibility for the shots was really instilled in me early on and that's kind of -- that was the foundation of my professional golf game was doing things on the fly and making decisions and committing to them quickly, and not really relying on someone to tell me what to do. Because in college, it was, you know, follow the schedule and kind of do everything by the team's standard, and I loved that. And that actually was easier for me.

But professional game is different, and it's pretty much all on you to make your travel plans and kind of do all that stuff.

So that independence was a big learning curve, especially in the beginning, and there were challenging moments with that. And me feeling like I needed somebody, you know, for a long time.

But I just kind of kept going with it, and yeah, I think it's become a strength now to be so independent and to have a guy like Paul back up my decision, or our decision, it really gives me even more confidence. So I love that feeling.

Q. And with people, too, that have different caddies, it seems, I've heard about local caddies or something like that just carry the bag. I'm assuming that's not totally how you go about it but can you talk about that to you, every week, maybe?

LINDY DUNCAN: I've had quite a few local caddies this year that were, in my mind, pretty much carrying the bag. And I do like that, too, especially on a course that I've played before or I am familiar with.

But on newer golf courses, I love having guys like Paul who can learn them in a day, basically. That's a huge advantage, for me, to be able to rely on that kind of insight.

I've basically done the full spectrum with caddies, and I see the positives to both, really.

Q. And then lastly, too, just about, you were first off today. How much do you like -- I know there was a little delay this morning but how much do you like just getting out there first?

LINDY DUNCAN: Yeah, that was great. I loved it. Because that front nine was really fast, and then we waited a lot at the turn. So the front nine felt like it really dragged. But to be able to get out there and play at a fast pace, you're not really -- you don't have time to think. You just keep going, and that's my favourite way to play.

And then the wind was pretty calm this morning. So the conditions were much more benign.
