Q. Without giving away any game plans, what are you expecting for the next couple of days? When do you expect to pitch?
JOSÉ QUINTANA: Well, I expect to pitch tomorrow. I don't know what kind of role. But last two games, I've just been prepared for whatever role the team needs me out there. Yeah, let's see tomorrow how is going to be my role.
The team hasn't decide yet what it's going to be, but for me, I just want to be ready.
Q. Does bullpen versus starting impact your routine? Anything you feel coming into the game given that you've pitched so many times as a starter and so few in a different role in your career?
JOSÉ QUINTANA: Yeah, it's different. For sure it's different. I've been starting my whole career. But doing this role before most of the time postseason. I think at this point, whatever role that they need you, you want to be prepared. You want to be ready and do it.
That's the place I want to be right now, and yeah, just be ready.
But yeah, for sure it's kind of different preparation. Every time when I play catch, I know it's going to be the day you can pitch, and just try to be ready before that.
Q. Could you talk about the atmosphere in the clubhouse today?
JOSÉ QUINTANA: Oh, here, it's amazing. It's the postseason. It's great. To get this opportunity, I think it's a privilege.
Right now we are focused to win a game, the first game, and after we can focus on another game.
But LA always is a big crowd. It's huge. The fans are amazing. You know, we've been here before, so we know how it is.
Q. Speaking of big crowds, there was just about 60 people in here a couple minutes ago before we walked in for the Dodgers. Do you feel like that's indicative of maybe where the perception of your team is right now, down 2-0 in this series, of just people are counting you out, and how do you guys respond to that?
JOSÉ QUINTANA: Well, we are focused on us. We know the last two games we didn't get the result we expect. Close games, and we're close. I think we pitched better than we played, our defense.
But we stay positive for the game tomorrow, and like I said, we need to show really good baseball and win one ballgame at a time.
That's the goal. So tomorrow we expect to get the first win.
Q. When you were in this position last year, you had some starters traditionally lined up. How different is this? Can you win this way? Is it a little different way to do it?
JOSÉ QUINTANA: Yeah, definitely it's different. As a starter, it's always better for us when you know what day you're going to pitch and you're ready for that. But every year is different.
I think at the end when I get hurt, pushed me to less pitch count. At this point for me it's a privilege to be here and help my team in the way or the role they need me at some point, it's to be in the bullpen. It's great.
So pitch well, at some point in this race you get the opportunity to start again.
But it's a short series, and you need just to be prepared and ready for whatever, but for sure it's completely different.
Q. You got right around 50 pitches in the Cubs game. Were you nearing the end of the tank at that point based on not starting for so many weeks? How far do you think you could push if you get out there?
JOSÉ QUINTANA: Oh, no, I was ready to keep going in that game. I feel great, excited. Postseason is completely different. You don't have limits. You always face batter by batter, hitter by hitter and just focus to keep it going because for all pitchers it can be short. You never know what are the matches you might have to do. Sometimes you want to stay in the game but you have to prove it.
At that time I want just to keep going, and this time you don't feel any pain, any limits. Just want to keep going.
Q. Shohei and Freddy was kind of a little bit struggling against lefties in the Phillies Division Series. Did you watch some video of the game or you didn't care about that?
JOSÉ QUINTANA: Oh, yeah, for sure. I've been watching videos, the whole lineup from there. Shohei, Freddy, all the lefties are really, really tough. They are one of the best hitters in baseball. It's always a challenge.
For sure I pay attention to reports. I pay attention to how they've been doing the last games and have my plan to how I'm going to attack. But for sure I pay attention to that.
