Shanghai, China
Mixed Zone
KRAWIETZ-PUETZ/Goransson-Michelsen
6-4, 6-4
Q. What a great tournament. You guys only lost one set. Today you guys seemed to be in control. Lost a break, then broke back. Tim, just talk about the week here, or I guess 12 days.
TIM PUETZ: We felt pretty good from the get-go, honestly. The conditions I think suited us quite well. Luckily, we play only doubles, so the heat is not too big a problem.
Really happy with our tennis the whole time that we were here. Also happy to tough out the difficult moments. There were some in every match. You never walk through a tournament like that. We did the same today. Really proud of our maturity there.
Q. Kevin, your first Masters 1000 final and, of course, first Masters 1000 title to go along with your two Grand Slams, ATP Finals. This has got to feel pretty good to get this one.
KEVIN KRAWIETZ: Yeah, of course. Yeah, I feel pretty good. We got to the semifinals, and then after semifinal I was of course happy to be in the final. Of course, you want to win the final. Here and there some tight moments, of course, so I had to figure out how to handle it.
But, yeah, in the end it went the right way, so very happy, very proud. And, yeah, let's enjoy the moment now.
Q. You guys are the first German duo to win a Masters 1000 since?
KEVIN KRAWIETZ: '82.
Q. '92. Becker-Stich. So just talk about that.
TIM PUETZ: Let's not put us in any way in the same category as these two.
Q. Knowing that it's been awhile since, and of course you won one yourself, but just as a team to kind of do it.
TIM PUETZ: Yeah, I mean, the first one was very special. Actually, Michael Stich sent me a text message after the first one. I didn't know him at all, and it was very, very nice of him. He sent me a really nice message after I won in Paris.
And yeah, doing it with Kevin, I don't want to do a disservice to Mikey, who I won the first one with. It's not nicer with Kevin, but it's definitely different winning it with a countryman, and winning it with someone who, we're at the end of year three now, we know each other so well. We're actually genuinely friends, also with our team. We go see each other, even when we don't have tournaments.
So it's very, very nice to share that. Obviously victories are nice, but also to share in defeats. I think all in all we're just happy with this phase of our careers and our lives to be together in those moments.
Q. Kevin, just talk about now you guys are a solid six on the Race, and looking good to probably get back to Turin.
KEVIN KRAWIETZ: Yeah, of course. Yeah, it's nice to go back to Turin. We have good memories there. Top 8, that was the goal in the beginning of the year, so we made it. Of course we are happy to compete there again with the best teams in the world. And, yeah, let's see how the next tournament is going. Masters Paris maybe, and then Turin, and then we have Davis Cup, so we have three big tournaments coming up.
