ROLEX SHANGHAI MASTERS

October 10, 2025

Daniil Medvedev

Shanghai, China

Mixed Zone

D. MEDVEDEV/A. de Minaur

6-4, 6-4

Q. Great performance today, especially in those moments when you are under pressure, it seemed. How happy are you?

DANIIL MEDVEDEV: It was a tight match. He had a lot of opportunities, maybe tiny bit more than me. Not in the first set. But no, actually not true. He had one game, and I had two in the second.

So, tight match. I managed to be a bit more clutch in the important moments. So, happy with the way I played, especially the last two games, and I'm happy to be through.

Q. (No microphone.)

DANIIL MEDVEDEV: Yeah, it was a great match. I was serving good in important moments. For sure, a couple of double-faults in the first set. I was soaking wet, it was so tough to hold the racquet. I'm just super happy to be in the semifinals in Shanghai. I'm looking forward to the next match.

Q. You are in the semifinals for the sixth time. How does it feel right now?

DANIIL MEDVEDEV: The year has been very tough. I feel great. I'm happy to try to finish on a high note. I love Shanghai, so I'm happy to play good tennis here. It's not over yet. I will try to do my best in the semis.

Q. Six-of-six break points saved, five in that first set. Talk about how crucial that was.

DANIIL MEDVEDEV: Yeah, it was not easy. I think probably all of them I served the first set, or first serve, so that helps. I played a great match. Even the games where he had a break point I feel like he was playing quite well. I managed to play amazing also the last two games to finish the match. Just super happy with my performance and looking forward.

Q. A lot of long rallies. There were seven rallies over 20 shots, and the highest was 29, which you won both. You got to be happy about coming out on those rallies.

DANIIL MEDVEDEV: Yeah, when you play against Alex, when I play against Alex, we both like to make opponent play extra shot. So when we both do it, it makes a long rally.

But, yeah, I was pretty tired after the last match, so I'm happy that I managed to fight, to stay in it. It was tough on me physically, but I managed to run, to bring back the balls to make some winners when I needed. And to finish with an ace was also a good feeling.

Q. We saw you play very well in Beijing, you're playing great here. At the beginning of the week Alex said that he would give everything for winning a Grand Slam. I ask you if, at this point of your career, how much you would give to be back in that kind of position?

DANIIL MEDVEDEV: I mean, it's a tough question because I give everything. So I already give a lot, I'm not sure I am ready to give anything more for this. I just want to do my best. I did my best throughout the whole year. It was a very tough year. I was not playing my best. So I'm happy that at this moment I'm showing some great tennis, some great signs of my previous self or my new self, and just looking for next one.

Q. How are you feeling about the semifinals against Rinderknech, he's had an amazing run?

DANIIL MEDVEDEV: Yeah, he's a very tough opponent. He's the type of player that when his game is on he can beat anyone. His serve is amazing, he hits the ball great. So he's not the type of player where, as I say, when his game is on you know that you're still going to have some chances, rallies. He's going to try to finish the point in two shots, so I'm going to try to do the same, and just play good and see how it goes.
