Press Conference
(Through translation.)
Q. Congratulations. Assess your performance out there today.
MINAMI KATSU: Yeah, it was pretty flawless round. Couple luckies I think but I think really good round overall.
Q. (Regarding why you chose this tournament.) Do you like this golf tournament?
MINAMI KATSU: Yes, yes.
Q. Any special reason?
MINAMI KATSU: Yes, I'm obviously a golfer. I love playing golf. I like to travel to different locations around the world.
I'm also a big fan of hot pots, spicy food, so I already decided where to go tonight so looking forward to that.
Q. Do you remember your lowest score?
MINAMI KATSU: My career-best was 10-under, so new record today.
Q. How many birdies did you have?
MINAMI KATSU: Today?
Q. (Indiscernible.)
MINAMI KATSU: Ten.
Q. (Indiscernible.)
MINAMI KATSU: Nothing complicated. It's very basic of my swing. Made a bogey on 10 but I think that I reminded myself to keep my swing to a very basic swing, so I think that helped my momentum today.
Q. (Indiscernible.)
MINAMI KATSU: I'm really not focusing on winning. I'm just trying to think very simple. I think if you think too much about the winning I think it's not going to end up in a good result.
I think trying to enjoy golf, my game, and hopefully I get a good result at the end.
Q. (Regarding the course record: 12 birdies.) Do you want to share some things about today and your performance and your swing and do you have some advices for the teenagers?
MINAMI KATSU: Basic is very important so try to keep continue doing your basics.
Q. (Indiscernible.) (Regarding Japanese winners. )
MINAMI KATSU: I've been very fortunate that I've been playing on professional tournaments when I was an amateur. I think those playing experiences helps my confidence, and I think that's one of the reasons why I've been able to play consistently out here.
Q. You're 27 years old. What you would like to say to yourself...
MINAMI KATSU: I think it's really important for you to enjoy your student life. Obviously after graduating you don't get that opportunity, so cherish your moment with your friends. That's something important for you.
Q. Can you talk about your last putt and how far it was and maybe what you thought when you saw it pop up a little bit?
MINAMI KATSU: Yeah, that was a hard putt. I hit it too hard and I was like, oh, boy. Why did I hit that so hard? Luckily it was going towards the hole so I was hoping hit the back edge of the cup and just popped up a couple inches and went right into the hole.
So felt like I was really lucky.
Q. Did you realize it was for your record when you were over the putt?
MINAMI KATSU: Nothing, no records in my mind. Just hoping it'll go closer to the hole. That was basically what I had in my mind.
Q. Besides breaking the 18 hole course record here, your own course record, you also broke the 36-hole record, so three records you broke today. What does that mean to you? Besides hot pots, are you going to celebrate any other way?
MINAMI KATSU: Yeah, honestly I'm very happy with the record that I made today. Obviously we still got two more days to play, so probably no celebration. I'll try to keep it simple today.
Q. (Regarding YouTube.)
MINAMI KATSU: To be honest, it's not very active, my YouTube account is not very active. I stated this account because every since the COVID I wasn't able to engage with the fans. Making that YouTube account I thought would be a good way it engage with the fans.
So I'll try to be more active on my YouTube account and hopefully I get to share more of my Tour life and everything.
