AL DIVISION SERIES: TIGERS VS MARINERS

October 7, 2025

Eugenio Suarez

Detroit, Michigan, USA

Comerica Park

Seattle Mariners

Postgame 3 Press Conference

Mariners - 8, Tigers - 4

Q. Geno, you began your career here. Your first Major League game was here. What were the emotions when you hit that home run?

EUGENIO SUAREZ: I mean, obviously you just feel great, you know, to do something here in Detroit where everything is hard.

But at the time, I just think about, you know, my team and what we've been doing in this postseason. You know, I try to help my team win games. I'm not really thinking about doing it here in Detroit or doing it -- you know, try to do something here in Detroit. I just came here with the same mentality like every day and try to compete and help my team win the game.

Q. What are your emotions, thoughts on being a win away from the AL Championship Series? First time in a long time for this franchise.

EUGENIO SUAREZ: It feels great. We've been battling all along getting to this point and being one step closer to going to the championship. And we're not done with the job yet. We have to continue playing like this. Today was a great game for us.

And like I say, we came here to win games and keep forward and see forward for what the baseball got for us. I think that the Seattle Mariners deserve where we are right now and the fans as well.

Q. Geno, how was tonight kind of indicative of your offense and your lineup? For the most part, it had been Cal and Julio and Jorge in the last couple games, but a lot of different guys tonight.

EUGENIO SUAREZ: I feel like these games -- it's a little bit for everybody, you know? The first two games, it wasn't for me, you know? And Cal and Julio did a real good job in the first two games. Obviously you want to do something. You want to help your team.

But it's not about one player, you know? Sometimes you help the team to defend the base running, to make a good play. Today I got an opportunity to help my team.

So that's my thing. That's what I thought every time. Come here, not try to be a superhero. Take the moment and play my game and have a good at-bat and see what baseball gives to me and what cap have indebted to me.

Today I hit the homer, and I helped my team win games. I think that's more important for me and for the team too, as well.

Q. Geno, what does it do for this lineup when you have a hitter like J.P. Crawford who can bat ninth with the kind of approach he has and the success that he has?

EUGENIO SUAREZ: I think that J.P. is one of the -- for us, he's been really good, both sides, defense and offense. You never know when he's going to hit a homer like today. He always batted, he always got good at-bats. He tries hard to make the pitching working hard.

It's not an easy out for him, you know? And helps out like that, it helps the team a lot. When you have J.P. in the box and you always think he's going to do something well, and today he did a really good job. He take a walk, and he hit a big homer, and he hit a sacrifice. How deep is our lineup right now? Everybody can do something.

Q. Did you know Miggy was going to be here today, Geno? Did you talk to him at all when he was here?

EUGENIO SUAREZ: To be honest, I got one call today, earlier this morning, and that call was made. I didn't even know -- I knew for a fact that he might be here.

He's a superhero here in Detroit. They love him, and that was really, really -- I feel good when I see Miggy throw the first pitch tonight. It's awesome to see him back here in Detroit.

I feel blessed that I share a clubhouse with him and how he represents not only Detroit, but Venezuela and Latin America and everything he does. It's very nice to see him tonight and throw the first pitch.

Q. Geno, I was surprised when Meadows bunted. Were you surprised? And how do you stay ready for something like that that's unexpected?

EUGENIO SUAREZ: You never know what's going to happen. You have to be ready. Those kind of games like that, I know I played shallow a little bit because I know at some point he was going to do that thing. He did it right there, and I was ready for make that play.

I helped Logan to stay close on the field, make outs. That's a little thing that helps the team win games. So it feels good when you make those plays like that and you see the reaction for our team, a big out right there. So you've always got to be ready for things like that, and today I was ready for the bunt right there.
