A. DE MINAUR/C. Ugo Carabelli
6-4, 6-2
Q. Talk about the conditions.
ALEX DE MINAUR: Some tough conditions out there, very slow. It's very different to what we've been playing on. So it's never easy, it's always a dangerous match. I'm happy with how I handled the situation. I was able to get through a good match in really tough conditions.
Q. It seems like it's significantly slower here. How does it feel?
ALEX DE MINAUR: Yeah, it feels like the slowest conditions I've played on tour. The balls get humongous after a couple games, and the speed of the court is very, very slow. It's also significantly slower than the outside courts, so that was a little bit of a shock to the system.
But, yeah, I mean, there's nothing really you can do but just adapt and just deal with it. So I'm glad that I was able to find a way to win.
Q. Talk about this, as you said, the conditions. It's so warm, hot actually is the word, almost like going to the U.S. in the summer, but it's October here, which is so rare.
ALEX DE MINAUR: Yeah, no, it's very similar. In fact, I'm kind of bringing the same mindset that I did for Washington. I'm bringing a whole lot of clothes to change. I've got four pairs of shoes because it's one of the few places where I actually sweat through my shoes, and I start making puddles on the court, which is not really normal for me. It happened in Washington and now it's happening here.
The biggest thing is just to be prepared for these types of conditions. Bring plenty of equipment, watch what you eat, watch how you hydrate yourself, and recovery is going to be very important.
Q. 48th win on the year, that's a career high for you, also the highest since 2004. Obviously got 50 in mind now. Just how does that reflect your season?
ALEX DE MINAUR: I'm happy with myself. It's a great achievement to show kind of the consistency. I feel like I probably could have broken that record last year if I hadn't gotten injured. To come back this year and just show that consistency week-in and week-out, I'm very proud of my efforts.
Saying that, there's still a lot of tennis to be played, so hopefully I can keep adding wins to that tally. Yeah, keep doing what I'm doing, keep my head down, keep working hard, keep showing up, and just keep the confidence and momentum going.
Q. In terms of Turin, can we say there's a quiet confidence that you'll be there?
ALEX DE MINAUR: Oh, my goal is to look at every single match ahead of me. As I said, there's still plenty of tennis to be played, plenty of results that can happen. At this stage I need to focus on myself.
If I can put in a good performance, if I can come out and win every single match until the end of the year, then I'll guarantee my spot in Turin. Ultimately it's up to me to keep showing up, keep putting good results, and, yeah, trying not to focus too much on what the other players are doing.
Q. The battle with Jannik last week, you took a set off him for the first time in a long time. Watching it, it was a great battle. What were your takeaways from that? You've often described it as your sort of worst matchup. What did you take out of it?
ALEX DE MINAUR: Well, what I keep on doing my whole career, and that's improving. No matter what people throw at me, I know I haven't reached my peak, and I think I still have a lot to give.
It was a great match in which I had plenty of opportunities. I had lots of break points, he just came up serving unbelievable in those break points, which didn't really give me a chance. I had kind of five minutes of bad tennis, and that cost me the third set.
Again, I'm going to keep on showing up, keep on proving people wrong, and, yeah, I have a lot more to give.
Q. The new practice court that you practiced on the other day, with all the fans. Your thoughts on that nice addition to this facility.
ALEX DE MINAUR: Yeah, it's a beautiful court. I had the chance to have a hit there yesterday with a fellow Aussie in Rinky, and that was a lot of fun, and some great atmosphere out there. Whenever you are in China they show such amazing support. The fans are great, they're grateful, they love their tennis, and it's always a pleasure to play in front of them.
