Hoakalei Country Club

Quick Quotes

Q. All right, joining me today after the second round of the LOTTE Championship is Brooke Matthews. Brooke, it's your rookie year; put yourself solidly in contention this week. How are you feeling?

BROOKE MATTHEWS: I'm feeling good. It's not my rookie year but my first time back to the LPGA since 2022. Feels good to be in contention. Still a lot of golf left, but played really nicely today. Kind of a combination of a lot of good shots and a few good safes for par.

Kind of takes everything out there on this course and when the wind is blowing not everything will be perfect.

Q. You played in the afternoon today versus the morning yesterday. How did you find the course played differently?

BROOKE MATTHEWS: Definitely windier. Until about my last three holes it was really, really gusting wind. The wind was kind of shifting directions, which was a little bit unusual.

Yeah, outdoor sport. We are used to playing in the wind. You just kind of go out there and do anything you can.

Q. Epson Tour Champ is taking place in California this week. Any words of advice or wisdom to the girls competing out there?

BROOKE MATTHEWS: Yeah, it's just another golf tournament. Obviously there might be a little bit more at stake, but just enjoy it. I remember Epson Tour Champs last year. I got my card and the card ceremony was just so much fun.

To those girls, just soak it in and make friends with the girls in the top 10. I had a really good time last year and they're still some of my best friends on Tour this year.

Q. Now that you've been out here for this season again, do you feel like you've learned anything, done anything differently? Do you feel like your maturity is helping at all? Anything to add about that?

BROOKE MATTHEWS: Yeah, I think just the more professional golf you can play the better. Definitely some maturity being for years older, having three more years of professional golf under my belt. It's just easy to settle in a little bit. Played some better golf this year obviously, so that helps.

But, yeah, I think it's just getting the reps in and just realizing that it's a long year, long season, and hopefully long career.

Q. Stacy Lewis has announced her retirement and is poised to make the cut right now. Can you just talk a little bit about your relationship with Stacy and the way that I guess you might have looked up to her in the past?

BROOKE MATTHEWS: Yeah, definitely she was one of my biggest inspirations growing up as a kid. Her being an Arkansas Razorback is a huge thing, so I've gotten to know her a little bit through the vine there.

Got to go with her last week to a sponsor's event in New York City, so we got spend a little time there, talk about her retirement and the state of the Tour. She's just so seasoned. She just knows the ins and outs of this Tour and what it means to be a professional golfer.

Yeah, definitely owe a lot of my inspiration to Stacy. Yeah, no surprise she's going to make the cut. She's a baller.
