ALFRED DUNHILL LINKS CHAMPIONSHIP

October 2, 2025

Ross Fisher

St. Andrews, Fife, Scotland

Quick Quotes

Q. First off today, opening round 65. Talk us through that round.

ROSS FISHER: Yeah, obviously delighted. First off was pretty much an honour, actually. The first one to tee off as well. So that was pretty cool. Yeah, just a really steady round. Hit it close early on. Hit it very close on 2. Hit it to a foot on 3. Four foot on 4. And then two good shots into the par 5 and easy birdie. And then yeah just played pretty steady. Hit one loose shot all day was the tee shot on 18 but thankful it was inbounds and hit two good putts on 17, 18.

But to go out there, bogey-free, 7-under with what, weather we had was pretty benign. We thought we were going to get it really, really tricky today. Felt like I had to take advantage of that because of the bad weather coming in the next few days. Very, very pleased to sign for 7-under.

Q. You had a nice stretch of four birdies in a row. How good was that?

ROSS FISHER: Always good to get a nice little stretch. It actually reminded me a little bit of when I shot the course record back a few years back. I think then I birdied 2, 3, 4 and missed about an 8-footer for eagle on 5.

So yeah, the thoughts were coming back but wasn't quite as good as that day but I'll definitely take it.

Q. And how much do you enjoy this format and this week in general?

ROSS FISHER: Yeah, I love it. I mean, I think my record probably speaks for itself. I've lost in a playoff once. I've had two runner-up finishes. I just really enjoy the event. I almost I feel like because you're, I'll say, looking after your partner, I kind of don't really pay too much attention in what I'm doing. I want to see my playing partner who is paired with me have a good week.

I feel like it relaxes you. You can chat a lot of of the day. And then before you know it, you sign your scorecard at the end of the day and think, I shot 7-under, nice. Knew I was playing well but wasn't playing close attention to it. Kind of takes your mind off your own game if you are looking after your partner. I always enjoy this week. It's one of my favourite weeks on the calendar.

Q. A good result this week will get you up The Race to Dubai rankings. Are you thinking about that this week?

ROSS FISHER: No. Just thinking about this tournament. Have a good history with this place and all love this tournament. Want to go out and play as good as I can and get a decent finish and have a chance on Sunday or Monday if it is considerable weather we are going to have.
