CHINA OPEN

October 1, 2025

Jannik Sinner

Beijing, China

Press Conference

J. SINNER/L. Tien

6-2, 6-2

THE MODERATOR: Congratulations. We'll leave questions to the floor.

Q. I saw you wrote the word 'thank you' on the camera. Can you tell us more about it? How do you feel regarding this year's China Open, especially the audience?

JANNIK SINNER: Yes, I feel like the crowd here has always been very special to me, already a couple years ago when I arrived.

When you win again a title where you won already, it's a very special place, no? It was for sure couple of years ago a turning point for my career, playing some great tennis against great opponents. This I will always remember.

I come back here, and winning again, it's very nice. Yeah, so the support has been amazing since day one. Seeing a packed stadium for the final, it's amazing. The crowd was very nice.

So yeah, that's why I wrote 'thank you'.

Q. With this title you become multiple champion in Beijing, like Djokovic and Nadal. How do you feel about that?

JANNIK SINNER: Yeah, great, of course, having my name next to them. In the same time, as I always say everyone is different, everyone tries to make his own path and way of career. I don't know how many times they played here actually.

But for me, this will always be a beautiful tournament no matter what's coming in the future. It's very unusual to come to a place for the first time and you win straightaway. This happened to me here. Now three finals in a row in three years. It means that I really like to play tennis here. I feel very comfortable.

Yeah, it's very nice also to see that other big, big players have played here in these stadiums. It's very nice.

Q. I know you're going to be your way to Shanghai soon. We know in Tokyo, Carlos just announced he would pull out. He actually mentioned he would ask himself maybe in the future if it was worth skipping some of the tournaments at the end of the season when it gets busy. Iga said she would also skip tournaments because the rules can get crazy. I wanted your take on the schedule. Do you think it is too tight? In the future, would you consider skipping some of these mandatory tournaments for health or other reasons?

JANNIK SINNER: Well, I skipped already many tournaments. Last year, for example, not playing a couple of tournaments.

Depends obviously what results you playing. If you go very far, like Carlos did this season, where basically every time you play you make at least final... Tournaments are getting also longer. The Masters events, they are quite long also. It's not a one-week event, basically a two-week event. Yeah, at some point I feel like you have to jump some tournaments. But everyone thinks in different ways, no?

For me, I skipped last year couple of tournaments because I think it was the right choice for my body and mind. Yeah, so also this year I didn't play Toronto, for example, or Montreal. Yeah, you have sometimes to jump some tournaments.

You can always choose. That's why I say, yes, they're mandatory, but at the end of the day you can still choose. I chose always or I will keep still choosing for my best.

Q. About tournaments, as much as you wanted to play earlier in the year in those three months that were missed, how has that been of benefit for you specifically this year when you come to this stage of the year? You haven't played as much as you normally would have. How much fresher are you feeling at this point compared to other years? You're building up quite a collection of trophies. This has to be probably one of the biggest ones in size that you've won. Where do you put the trophies?

JANNIK SINNER: In my parents' place always. My apartment is quite small, so there's not a lot of space.

What was the other question (smiling)?

Q. About being fresher at this time of year.

JANNIK SINNER: It's difficult. I feel like also last year we managed very well the season. I managed to play incredibly well at the end of the season because I made some choices earlier on by not playing couple of tournaments.

I'm not saying that this is the right choice or not. You know, you never know. What I try to do is to understand. It's very difficult when you're 23, 24, because you're still young, to understand fully your body and mind, what the best thing is to do. That's why exactly you have the best possible people around you trying to guide you a little bit at times.

Three months... One thing is if you're injured, you accept it better. This year was a little bit different. It was not easy. But in the same time I used this time to work on things. We've been practicing very hard. I feel like physically I'm getting slightly better every time.

So yeah, but seeing also last year I was fresh in the end of the year because I made some choices. So yeah, that's it.

Q. You have won the biggest trophy two times in less than three years. Only Novak Djokovic won six times. I want to know how many times do you believe you can break Novak's record? Do you think you will come here as long as Novak did?

JANNIK SINNER: I don't know (smiling).

I always say comparing me to Novak, he's in different league with everything he has achieved in his career. I'm just a normal 24-year-old who tries to play the best tennis possible.

I know I've won some great titles in my young career, but let's see how long I can hold it. What Novak, Rafa and Roger did for 15-plus years was amazing. Novak is still here and showing some incredible tennis. So let's see.

But I'm not comparing myself. I'm here to play. I'm here to enjoy. I'm also happy that I can say that I won two times here. If it stays at two? If it's more, I'm more happy? I don't know if I'm more happy. I don't know.

I'm very happy that I can say I won here two times, then we see in the future.
