Press Conference
J. SINNER/T. Atmane
6-4, 5-7, 6-0
THE MODERATOR: Welcome to the press conference of Jannik Sinner.
Congratulations, Jannik. Another win for you today. There was a moment of frustration after the second set, but how did you manage to overcome that and win the third set very quickly?
JANNIK SINNER: Yeah, it was for sure a tough match. We played each other in Cincinnati. We know a little bit what to expect.
He was serving well at times. At times not so much. I was up two times to break in the second set, couldn't use it. It happens.
But obviously happy that I went through today's challenge. Not the way you want to win the match. He struggled with some cramps in the end of the match. But generally I'm very happy again to be in the quarterfinals.
THE MODERATOR: Questions, please.
Q. There was a moment in the third set were you fell and grabbed your ankle. I was wondering if there's any update on that or how it feels after the match?
JANNIK SINNER: No, feels good. No problems, physical problems. It's all good. Thank you.
Q. Taking into consideration what you were just saying about playing him and the match itself, was there any concern after losing the second set?
JANNIK SINNER: Well, there are always concerns. I mean, third set can go both ways, especially with big servers. If he breaks you once early, then serves very well, so...
I mean, the match is not over until it's over, you know? So he for sure carried a lot of confidence in the third set. I managed to play a great first game to break him, which then gave me the confidence to somehow manage the set. After the double break, it was a bit different. The atmosphere went down. Also physically a bit.
Yeah, I mean, it was a very difficult challenge today.
Q. Thoughts on playing Marozsan in the next round?
JANNIK SINNER: Yeah, we played in Halle the last time, some time ago, more than a year ago. But he's playing great. I saw his match today. I saw his first-round match also. His peak is very, very high. He's a big hitter. Has great touch with the ball also. So let's see.
But I'm looking forward to it. It's kind of new challenge again, facing a very tough opponent after more than a year. Let's see what's coming. But I'm very excited.
Q. I want to ask you about your golf and the driving range. There was a video I think on Instagram, I don't know if it was your father standing close by.
JANNIK SINNER: Yeah (smiling).
Q. Have you improved since then?
JANNIK SINNER: Yes, because worse it cannot get (laughter).
No, no, I have improved a little bit. But yeah, it's not there where I would love to, that's for sure. I'm not playing also a lot. I just play to have some fun.
Me and my dad, now we are quite even with the level we play. So he's laughing less now (smiling). No, we have some fun. Sometimes we go. I like to go in great company. I'm not there to compete, so...
Yeah, I have improved slightly. Not much, though, but slightly.
