CHINA OPEN

September 26, 2025

Bu Yunchaokete

Beijing, China

Press Conference

A. De MINAUR/Bu Yunchaokete

6-4, 6-0

THE MODERATOR: We'll go straight to questions in Chinese.

Q. (Question about the match.)

BU YUNCHAOKETE: I wasn't playing well in the second set. I wasn't feeling anything. I don't know what happened. The first game I was broken. After that there my mindset was kind of disrupted and the level dropped pretty fast.

In the second set I wasn't able to make a breakthrough. In the first set I was also broken because of my own errors. The second set I wasn't able to really make adjustments. I went to the bathroom. I thought I could make some adjustments.

In the first set, I was broken out of nowhere. The second set it happened again. I really couldn't control my emotions. The level dropped. That's what happened.

Q. You mentioned you played de Minaur two times. They were both tough matches. Considering today, was your opponent putting more pressure on you or was your performance not ideal?

BU YUNCHAOKETE: I thought the first set was okay. Pressure wasn't uncommon. He wasn't playing that well either and I had some opportunities.

The first set I was pretty happy with my level because that's all I could do. In the second set mostly it was stress as well as his level of play, which resulted in the emotions or stress, which was out of control for me.

That was why the level dropped.

Q. You talked about emotions, control, several times in your answers. How can you improve this situation?

BU YUNCHAOKETE: If you are familiar with me, you know that I'm a very optimistic and calm person. A person always encounters situations like this. Today could be one of the worst days in a year. This is common. To be frank, I felt the tension and pressure today.

Most of the times I can manage the pressure pretty well. If I was under a lot of pressure, I wouldn't be able to play like how I did in the first set.

The second set I said it was errors, it was mistakes coming out of nowhere. All of a sudden it was hard for me to accept, to digest. It was emotional control. Even though I wasn't showing it on my face, internally I was really struggling in the second set.

Q. You used to roll up your sleeves in previous matches. Now you're wearing a sleeveless shirt. How do you feel?

BU YUNCHAOKETE: I would like to ask you, when I rolled up my sleeves before, did you consider them sleeveless (smiling)?

It's no difference to me. I would like to thank my sponsor for customizing the shirt for me because this is bringing me more comfort so I can play better on court.

Q. This is your first year to have a complete season. You're doing well in terms of your ranking. What happened last year? You enjoyed breakthroughs last year during the China season. Do you have higher expectations coming into the China season this year, so there was a lot of pressure?

BU YUNCHAOKETE: Well, Beijing is a very special place to me. Of course, I came in with high expectations. I wanted to play better, especially in front of the home crowd.

I, of course, wanted to push myself. Today it wasn't a good result under stress. In Hangzhou, I was also under stress, but I was able to manage the stress in Hangzhou with a good performance.

Coming into Beijing, I just did not deal with the pressure that well. It's pretty bad today actually. Yes, I look forward to a better performance next time.
