Bills 40, Panthers 9
Q. Talk about today's victory.
JOSH ALLEN: Yeah, I mean, I thought it was complementary. Obviously with the pick right before half, getting another six. Double dip there. James is playing outstanding right now. Our O-line is giving him a lot of holes. He's making some unbelievable cuts, outrunning people. Doing what James Cook does.
I have to be better myself. First half, I wasn't getting myself into a rhythm. I wasn't trusting my feet. I was forcing a couple things. A couple things just didn't go our way. I've got to be better on that aspect.
Again, I think we were pretty good on third downs today, moved the sticks. I think still there's a lot to clean up, which is the exciting thing.
Q. You're doing well. James has really carried your offense for a little bit of time now. Talk about the importance of that.
JOSH ALLEN: Yeah, I think if you look at the efficiency he's had... How many rushes did he have today?
Q. 19.
JOSH ALLEN: 19. I mean, he's playing outstanding. I think the more times we get the ball in his hands, the better we're going to be. Same thing with 10 Khalil, just getting the ball in his hands, letting him make some plays for us.
Yeah, getting to throw my hands up from 50 yards out.
Q. You referenced some of the struggles in the passing game in the first half. The score is the score. Stats get skewed. What is your concern level with moving the ball through the air, particularly in the first two quarters?
JOSH ALLEN: Not concerned at all. I think if I can go back and change a couple things, trust my feet, get through my progressions, wouldn't even be talking about this.
But yeah, I think it's an easy cleanup. Again, it's just trusting the guys out there, trusting my feet, putting the ball where it needs to be.
Q. What do you mean by not trusting your feet?
JOSH ALLEN: Understanding the concept. If it's a three step or a five step, just trusting it. Again, being a little more settled early on. Again, first game back since the bye. Just not trusting my feet a little bit. Getting out of things make a little too quickly. Just get back in the swing of things.
Q. (No microphone.)
JOSH ALLEN: Again, a little hype getting back on the football field, a little eagerness to go make a play. Letting the game come to me. Again, just trusting what's out there.
Q. Why has this team been so good coming off the bye?
JOSH ALLEN: I think it's the way our guys handled it. Obviously from the top making sure we're practicing right way. Coming off of two losses, it's been lingering with us. Wanted to come out here and put our best food forward. I think tonight we did that.
Q. Any win is a good win. Does this feel like it's a get-right day for you as a team?
JOSH ALLEN: I mean. The way that we won, for sure. I think, again, the exciting part is there's a lot to clean up, improve on. Really excited about where this team can go.
Q. The line's performance today kind of made it easy for you. Their overall effort?
JOSH ALLEN: It was unbelievable. They felt like they had something to prove going out there. Forcing some turnovers, giving us a couple short fields. One, we didn't capitalize on it. The one on the one yard line, A.J. makes a great play. That's the standard we have for ourselves. That's what we expect every time we step on the field.
Q. Talk about the defense, the way you ran the ball. How do games like this turn into an elite game?
JOSH ALLEN: When you have James Cook, let him cook (smiling).
Q. The success you had running the ball early, did you notice the difference in terms of keeping them off balance, opening things up for the first drive of the second half?
JOSH ALLEN: Yeah, anytime you can run the ball that well, it's going to do things for your offense. Quick game, play-action game, nakeds. That second half is how we feel like we should play. The first half running the ball well, but wasn't to my standard in terms of how we want to attack it through the air. Again, a lot to learn on and improve on.
Q. A personal accolade, becoming the first NFL quarterback, 46 games with a rushing touchdown, a passing touchdown. Cam Newton's record. What does that feel like?
JOSH ALLEN: It's cool (smiling). Just find a way to win, that's all we're trying to do.
Q. Talk about your big play with Khalil. What did you see?
JOSH ALLEN: Yeah, they brought some pressure into a five-man protection. We were sliding the other way. Typically in football you want to throw it into the blitz because there's more room there.
You see the great effort from 10. If you go back and watch that play, Elijah Moore was coming from the other side, making a really key block, allowing Khalil to spring free. That's the effort, again, it's not going to get talked about in the box score.
18, Elijah, makes that play there. I got to be better for 18. I missed him on a deep out earlier in the game. For him to not care about that, to put his head down, make an extra block for a guy, speaks a lot of the character that he has.
Thank you.
