Team Argentina
Press Conference
THE MODERATOR: Good afternoon, everyone. We'll start the press conference with Team Argentina.
A question for the captain. How happy are you to be part of the eight teams in the Davis Cup Finals this year?
CAPTAIN JAVIER FRANA: Definitely we are so proud of being part of such a great event. I think for all of us it's really amazing. Also we represent in a way a region, because we are the only country in South America. We are very pleased to be here.
THE MODERATOR: We'll take questions.
Q. Fran, can you talk about the team spirit in the Argentina team. Seems like you guys are all good friends. I think you've all known each other since you were young, played consistently for a long time. What is it like being part of this team?
FRANCISCO CERUNDOLO: Yeah, I think it's incredible. We are an incredible team. We have a great relationship, all of us. I mean, with Tommy and Come, we know each other since we are 10 years old.
The doubles guys, a little bit older than us (smiling). They bring us experience. They are the leaders of us with the captain, Javi. It's really good to have a great relationship all together because it's easier to spend the week, to practice, to play, the ones that step into the court.
We are enjoying. Hopefully we can bring that energy on the court.
Q. Tomas, the captain mentioned you're the only team here from outside of Europe, not just a team from South America. We're used to seeing big Argentine fan bases. You normally have support wherever you go in the world. When you played Norway, the fans were amazing. I imagine in Italy there's lots of Argentines. Are you expecting a big support, big crowd?
TOMAS MARTIN ETCHEVERRY: Yes, of course. I expect to have a lot of fans here in Italy. Always we have a lot of support here.
Yeah, at the beginning of the season when we played in Norway, we had a lot of fans there. Hopefully here more. They are really special. Having the Argentinians support us, it's special for us.
Q. What does it mean to have all the fans there? How important is it to your performance?
HORACIO ZEBALLOS: It's an amazing feeling. One of the reasons that we enjoy Davis Cup is because we have that difference with ATP tournaments that we play during the year.
It's a beautiful feeling to try to play with them, look outside and see them cheering for us. It's something that for sure after every tie I tell myself I'm going to remember that the whole of my life, yeah.
Q. Fran, you obviously don't know who's going to play. You have a very good record against Germany's No. 1, Alexander Zverev. What have been the keys for you in that matchup? What's the challenge of facing him on an indoor hard court?
FRANCISCO CERUNDOLO: Yeah, it's a good head-to-head against a player because maybe there's something that I do that it bothers him and he cannot maybe find that solution.
But of course, the matches that I won have been on clay. This is a different condition. I will try to adapt the things I did on clay here, to try to use them in indoor hard courts.
But I think it's going to be of course a super difficult match. He plays really good in these conditions. In Paris, made semis. Final in Vienna. He had good results.
I'll try to use my advantage on the first meeting of the match.
Q. Horacio, you've had a busy few weeks. How are you feeling coming into this tie against Germany?
HORACIO ZEBALLOS: No, of course talking about the tie, it's going to be a really tough one. We know that the three players that they have, they are very good.
But talking about myself, yeah, it's been a great year. I've been playing a lot of tournaments, but doing very good. I'm very happy with my tennis so far.
If you're talking about mentally, I'm 10 points, of course. This is a week that we always come and try to do our best. I'm 100% positive.
