GEICO PLAYERS ERA MEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP

November 24, 2025

Micah Shrewsberry

Las Vegas, Nevada, USA

MGM Grand Garden Arena

Notre Dame Fighting Irish

Postgame Press Conference

Kansas 71, Notre Dame 61

MICAH SHREWSBERRY: Congrats to Kansas. I thought they dominated the paint, played -- just really took advantage of their advantage there in the paint, and that was the story.

Q. You had a couple moments where you got close within four or five points in the second half. Why do you think you weren't able to get over the hump in those times?

MICAH SHREWSBERRY: Yeah, I mean, I don't know. A couple times that we either fouled late or they hit a tough -- we didn't foul late. We only had three team fouls late in the game. They made some tough shots, a couple threes to kind of pull away or got a paint point or something.

Those are big possessions for us. I need to do a better job of getting us into something so we can score in those opportunities when we get it.

But when you get yourself down like that, all of your energy gets into coming back, and sometimes you're not able to get over the top when you need to.

Q. Micah, how difficult is it to prepare a team to play again the next day, sort of a unique format?

MICAH SHREWSBERRY: You've known the first two opponents, so we've had people working on it ahead of time. But it's about your culture, and it's about grit; who's going to want it more tomorrow.

Rutgers played right before us, and the result didn't go their way, and the result didn't go our way. What's going to take the time to pout about it? Who's going to take the time to grit their teeth and come back and get a win. It's going to test your culture, your system, and we're going to see what we're about tomorrow.

Q. Kansas has had a couple of games with Darryn Peterson and now a couple without. Anything you see analyzing the film when they've had him and when they haven't?

MICAH SHREWSBERRY: They told us pretty early that he wasn't playing. You watch some of those games but you more focus on the ones without. They're more post dominant without him. I think Bryson Tiller is playing great with him not in. He's getting way more opportunities. I think Trey white is more aggressive and getting way more opportunities.

So that's how it's changed. They always kind of play through Flory in different ways, but now Tre White is being more aggressive, now Bryson Tiller is starting to get active and doing more on the perimeter, around the basket.
