Q. How pleased are you with today?

NACHO ELVIRA: Very pleased especially with the beginning that I had today. I thought that I had a very slow start, and I say everybody making birdies and eagles everywhere. Very happy. I bounced back really well.

Q. How crucial is it to get off to a good start here? Looks like all the scoring opportunities are on the first few holes?

NACHO ELVIRA: Definitely, if you are trying to catch up with the guys, there's a couple par 5s where people are making eagles like it's nothing. Obviously it wasn't crucial for me today, but I managed to battle back and hopefully I can get better tomorrow.

Q. What part of your play today you felt was really on song?

NACHO ELVIRA: Like I said, I think I've been playing well like all week, the last couple weeks, it wasn't working at the beginning today I guess.

But I think my iron play has been on point. I'm hitting the driver quite decent, and I managed to have a good pace on these greens that are slopey. If I can do that, maybe I can put myself in a good position tomorrow.

Q. Is there something about this course that you're drawn to?

NACHO ELVIRA: I guess I have a good poker face. I'm not comfortable on this course. I played with Nico today, and he hits it a long way. It seemed like a pitch-and-putt for him. It's a course that you have to respect somehow with the pins, and I'm trying to do that it.

Whenever there's a pin I feel like I'm not going to get there, I try to 2-putt, and if there's a pin that I have my wedge on, I try to go for it.

Q. How much are you enjoying being in contention in a tournament like this?

NACHO ELVIRA: A lot to be fair. I haven't been able to be in contention like a tournament like this, a big tournament. I feel very calm, and try to enjoy as much as I can.
