Quick Quotes
Q. All right, here with Nelly Korda after the third round of the Kroger Queen City Championship presented by P&G. Just walk us through your day a little bit. Looked pretty steady on the front nine and then some birdies and an eagle on the back nine there.
NELLY KORDA: Yeah, just made one on the second hole and then missed a couple opportunities, especially on the reachable par-5s. Just didn't really hit great tee balls. Then on 8, didn't really hit a good chip so didn't leave myself a very easy birdie putt.
Turned it around a little bit on the back nine. Made two in a row and then made a little bit of a silly bogey, but it's nice to finish with an eagle.
Q. Eight of nine greens on the front and five of nine greens on the back, but scored much better on the back. What was the cause of that?
NELLY KORDA: That's a great question. I don't know. Yeah, that's just golf kind of. Got a little bit windier on the back. Kind of there was one hole -- the hole that I bogeyed, it was into the wind, into the wind until I hit, and then it was downwind. Honestly, it was two perfect shots and I walk away with a bogey; that's kind of just golf.
Even if you're not hitting it the best, you know, at the end of the day greens in reg, you can be one inch off and you can hit a perfect shot if it's tucked in the back. So I was hitting good shots and eventually capitalized on them, too.
Q. You mentioned the eagle on the last hole. Now puts you in contention heading into Sunday. How nice is it to have that cherry on top of the round?
NELLY KORDA: Yeah, nice to finish that off with an eagle, get into a good spot going into Sunday.
See how tomorrow goes.
Q. Walk us through the yardage. What club did you use on that hole?
NELLY KORDA: On 18?
Q. Yeah.
NELLY KORDA: I between a 6-iron and a 5-iron. I had 201 yards to the green. The cover was about mid-180s and the wind was off my right. Ball was a little below my feet. Didn't really want a rip at a 6-iron, so I kind of faded a 5-iron in there, a little controlled 5. Tried to hit it a little higher so it wouldn't shoot on the green, and did just that.
Q. How far was the putt?
NELLY KORDA: It was probably about 15 feet, yeah. So it was pretty gettable putt. Just honestly a very fast downhiller, but right edge, so had not much movement to it.
Q. I know chasing is one of your favorite things. How excited do you get knowing you've only got a couple shots to make up at a golf course that's as gettable as TPC River's Bend?
NELLY KORDA: Yeah, that's what I love about golf, is kind of the grind. Doesn't matter where you are. Sometimes people come from the back. You just have to kind of get it going.
There is nothing better than being in the hunt contention and feeling that adrenaline hoping that you are in contention going last few holes in.
But going to try and work as hard as I possibly can to get into at that position tomorrow.
Q. You've got yourself, Charley, Jeeno, great leaderboard out there. When it's so jam packed like this, how do you try to separate yourself, or do you?
NELLY KORDA: You just have to focus on yourself, be aggressive when you can, and kind of steer to safety when you have to; not get stupid and make silly mistakes.
I mean, it's easier said than done. We all make them and we're all going to make them. You try to steer away from them as much as possible.
Q. Six one-putts on the back nine. A lot of one-putts on the back nine. What was the difference from the front nine to the back nine on the greens?
NELLY KORDA: Well, I missed a few. That was about it. And then obviously two birdies. I hit it really close on 11 and really close on 12. They were both like one foot.
Then just missed few greens. So that's about it.
