Q. 71 for you today. How do you assess your performance out there?

VIKTOR HOVLAND: Yeah, it was a really nice start. I was kind of licking my chops there. Felt like I was in somewhat control of my game, and I just kept plugging along.

But battling my golf swing all year, and kind of had to pay the price there at the end of the front nine, and particularly the back nine there. 12th hole, making the double bogey there, really stinks. That's giving up three shots right there. That's a little disappointing.

Q. Can you put your finger on it? Is it something that's easy to correct?

VIKTOR HOVLAND: No. I've been struggling with it for almost two years now. So it's not something that's just going to change overnight. But I've had some good days and some worse days despite it, so I still feel like if I tightening thing up tomorrow and I make some putts, I can still shoot a really low score tomorrow and have a chance to contend for a victory.

Q. Your start today, three shots back, how do you go about closing that gap?

VIKTOR HOVLAND: It's one of those courses if you play well, you can make up a lot of birdies and make up a lot of ground. Seeing what Tyrrell did today, shoot a 64 and kind of come from nowhere into contention; and at the same time if you play the ball a little bit; and there's some nerves in there and you hit it on the wrong side, you can shoot easily a couple shots over par.

This is a super exciting course, and you can't take anything for granted. I need to go out there and play as well as I can and see what happens.

Q. Do you watch what's happening around you tomorrow, or are you just focused on what you're doing?

VIKTOR HOVLAND: I'll pay attention but at the end of the day, if I don't shoot a good score tomorrow, it doesn't matter.

Q. It's a pretty special championship, as well. How good has it been for you to be a part of it and be in the mix and enjoy what it has to offer?

VIKTOR HOVLAND: This is a tournament I look forward to every single year. It's my fifth time playing, and it's just a great atmosphere. The crowds are awesome. It's a great golf course, obviously a lot of history here, and I'd like to put my name on that trophy.
